वरिमण्डलगैर्धूम्रैः सस्फुलिङ्गैर्जगत्क्षयः
If the solar disc appears smoky, with sparks, it indicates destruction of the world.
घ्नन्ति द्वित्रिचतुर्वर्णैर्भुवि राजजनान्मुने
With two, three, or four colors, O sage, the Sun strikes down kings on earth.
पीतैर्नृपसुतः श्वेतैः पुरोधाश्चित्रितैर्जनाः
If yellow, it afflicts the king's son; if white, the priests; if variegated, the people.
शुभोर्ऽकः शिशिरे ताम्रः कुङ्कुमाभा वसंतिके
The Sun is auspicious in winter; in spring, he is coppery, resembling saffron.
पद्मोदराभः शरदि हेमन्ते लोहितच्छविः
In autumn, he is like the inside of a lotus; in early winter, he has a reddish hue.
रोगानावृष्टिभयकृत् क्रमादुक्तो मुनीश्वर
These, in order, are said to cause disease, drought, and fear, O best of sages.
शशरक्तनिभे भानौ संग्रामो न चिराद्भुवि
When the Sun appears like a rabbit or blood, war will soon arise on earth.
चन्द्रमासदृशो भानुः कुर्याद्भूपान्तरं क्षितौ
If the Sun resembles the Moon, he brings change among kings on earth.
छिद्रेर्ऽकमण्डले दृष्टं महाराजविनाशनम्
If a hole is seen in the solar disc, it foretells the destruction of a great king.
छत्राकृते देशहतिः खण्डभानुनृपान्तकृत्
If the Sun appears like an umbrella, there will be devastation in the land and the ruin of kings.
तदा नृपवधो ज्ञेयस्त्वथवा राजविग्रहः
At that time, the killing of a king should be understood, or else a conflict with the king.
राजानमन्यं कुरुतो लोहिताम्बुदयास्तगौ
When another king is opposed, there will be rivers of blood.
घनैर्युद्धं खरोष्ट्राद्यैः पापरूपैर्भयप्रदम्
There will be fierce battles with wicked beings such as camels and donkeys, bringing fear.
सौम्यशृङ्गोन्नतः श्रेष्ठो नृयुङ्मकरयोस्तथा
The best is when the gentle horn is elevated, as also for the king and the minister.
चापवत्कौर्महॄर्ंयोश्च शूलबत्तुलकर्कयोः
As with the bow for Kaurma and Hṛṇya, and as with the spear for Tula and Karka.
आषाढद्वयमूलेन्द्रधिष्ण्यानां याम्यगः शशी
When the Moon is in the southern direction of the two Āṣāḍhās, the roots, and the thrones of Indra.
विशाखा मित्रयोर्याम्यपार्श्वगः पापगः शशी
When the Moon is with Viśākhā and Mitra, and in the southern side, and afflicted.
अप्राप्यपौष्णभाद्रामदुक्षाविशशी शुभः
If the Moon does not reach Pauṣṇa, Bhādra, Madhu, or Kṣāvi, it is auspicious.
यमेन्द्राहीशनोयेशमरुतश्चार्द्धतारकाः
Yama, Indra, Āhīśa, Noya, Isha, Marut, and the half-stars.
याम्यशृङ्गोन्नतो नेष्टः शुभः शुक्ले पिपीलिका
When the southern horn is elevated, it is not desirable; it is auspicious in the bright fortnight for the ant.
सुभिक्षकृद्विशालेन्दुरविशालोघनाशनः
The full Moon brings abundance, destroys great clouds, and is vast.
कुजाद्यैर्निहते शृङ्गे मण्डले वा यथाक्रमम्
When the horn or the circle is struck by Mars and others, in due order.
सत्याष्टनवमर्क्षेषु सोदयाद्विक्रिमे कुजे
When Mars rises in the eighth or ninth sign, or at sunrise, or in retrograde motion.
दशमैकादशे ऋक्षे द्वादशर्वाग्रतीपयः
In the tenth or eleventh sign, or at the tip of the twelfth, the same applies.
कुजे त्रयोदशे ऋक्षे वक्रिते वा चतुर्दशे
For Mars in the thirteenth sign, or retrograde in the fourteenth.
पञ्चदशे षोडशर्क्षे वक्रे स्याद्रुधिराननम्
In the fifteenth or sixteenth sign, if retrograde, there will be a blood-red face.
अष्टादशे सप्तदशे तद्वक्रं मुशलाह्वयम्
In the eighteenth or seventeenth, if retrograde, it is called Muśala.
फआल्गुन्योरुदितो भौमो वैश्वदेवे प्रतीपगः
When Mars rises in both Phālgunis, and is adverse in Vaiśvadeva.
उदितः श्रवणे पुष्ये वक्तृगोश्वनहानिदः
When the Moon rises in Śravaṇa or Puṣya, it brings loss to the speaker, cattle, and grain.
मधामध्यगतो भौमस्तत्र चैव प्रतीपगः
If Mars is positioned in the middle of Madhā, and there is a contrary movement there—
