चतुरस्रं तूर्यमृत्युत्रिकोणं नवपञ्चमम्
The fourth is a square, the eighth is a death-triangle, the ninth and fifth are trines.
नृपादः कीटपशवो बलाढ्याः केन्द्रगाः क्रमात्
Kings, insects, and animals are powerful when occupying the angular houses, in order.
रक्तः श्वेतः शुकनिभः पाटलो धूम्रपाण्डुरौ
Red, white, parrot-colored, pale, smoky, and yellowish are their hues.
साम्याशाख्यप्लवत्वं स्याद्द्वितीये वशिरर्कभात्
Equality, fame, and floating are found in the second; the Sun is the lord there.
जीवो ज्ञानं सुखं शुक्रः कामो दुःखं दिनेशजः
Jīva signifies knowledge and happiness; Śukra, desire; the Sun's son, sorrow.
सचिवो सूर्यजः प्रेष्यो मतो ज्योतिर्विदां वरैः
The Sun's son is the minister, the Moon's son is the servant, as esteemed by the best among astrologers.
वर्णा व अव्यहहरीद्रा शचीकौधिपारवेः
The colors are white, yellow, and green for Śacī, Kaudhi, and Pārava.
क्षीणेन्द्वर्काररविजाः पापा पापयुतो बुधः
Those born from the waning Moon, Sun, Mars are malefic; Mercury is malefic when joined with malefics.
शिखिभूमिपयोवारिवासिनो भूसुतादयः
The sons of the earth and others dwell in peacocks, earth, water, and air.
सौराएंऽत्यजाधिपः प्रोक्तो राहुर्म्लेच्छाधिपस्तथा
The lord of Saturn's sign is called the outcaste lord; Rāhu is likewise the lord of the foreigners.
देवतेन्द्वग्निरैवलाभूकोसखायोपराधिपाः
The deities, Indra, Agni, Raivata, Bhūka, Sakha, and the overlords.
स्फुटितं रवितस्तांम्रं तारे ताम्रपुनिस्तथा
Split, radiant, copper-colored, and also copper-hued in the stars.
सौरशुक्रारचन्द्रज्ञगुरुषूद्यत्सु च क्रमात्
In the Sun, Venus, Mars, Moon, Jupiter, and Saturn, in order, as they rise.
सौरेज्यारापरे पूर्णे क्रमात्पश्यन्ति नारद
When Saturn and Jupiter are full, in order, they are observed, O Narada.
कटुतिक्तक्षारमिश्रमधुराम्लकषायकाः
Sharp, bitter, alkaline, mixed with sweet, sour, and astringent tastes.
जीवो जीवज्ञौ सितज्ञौ व्यर्का व्याराः क्रमादमी
The soul, the knower of souls, the knower of white, the enemies, the adversaries, these in order.
मिथोधनव्ययायत्रिबन्धुव्यापारगः सुहृत्
Mutual wealth, expenditure, three relatives, business, and the friend.
मत्कालोधिसुहृन्मित्रपूर्वकान्कल्पयेत्पुनः
Again, one should assign those with the master of time, the overlord, the friend, and the companion as preceding.
दिक्षु सौम्येज्ययोः सूर्यारयोः सौरे सिताब्जयोः
In the directions, for the gentle and worshipped, for the Sun and the adversaries, for Saturn, for the white and lotus-born.
उत्तरस्था दीप्तकराश्चेष्टा वीर्ययुता मताः
Those situated in the north, with radiant rays, are considered active and endowed with strength.
क्रूराः कृष्णे सिते सौम्याः मतं कालबलं बुधैः
The cruel are in the dark, the gentle in the white; the wise consider time and strength.
पापास्तु बलिनः सौम्या विवक्षाः कण्टकोपगे
The sinful are powerful, the gentle are inclined to speech, when associated with thorns.
स्वांशे पापाः परांशस्थाः सौम्यालग्नं वियोनिजम्
The sinful are in their own portion; those in another's portion are gentle; the ascendant is born of the sky.
शीर्षं वक्रगले पादावंसौ पृष्टमुरस्तथा
Head, crooked in the neck, feet, both sides, back, and chest likewise.
पुच्छं चतुष्पदाङ्गेषु मेषाद्या राशयः स्मृताः
Tail, in the four-footed limbs; the signs beginning with Aries are thus remembered.
दृक्समानप्रमाणांश्च इष्टे रेखां स्मरस्थितैः
The lines, equal in sight and measure, are desired by those situated in memory.
वांशे स्थलांबुजः सौरेर्द्वीक्षायोगभवा द्विजाः
In the portion, the land and lotus, for Saturn, are produced by the conjunction of two, O twice-born.
स्थलांबुभेन्दोशकृतश्चेतरेषामुदाहृतः
Land and water are caused by the Moon; for the others, it is declared likewise.
तावन्त एव तखः स्थलजा जलजास्तथा
There are just as many birds, creatures of the land, and those born in water.
भौमे कण्टकिनो वृक्षा ईज्ये ज्ञे सफलाफलौ
On earth, there are thorny trees, both fruitful and fruitless, to be known and worshipped.
