व्यासः शरः शरोनाञ्च व्यासाच्छरगुणात्पदम्
The diameter is the arrow; the arrow’s length is derived from the diameter by the rule of the arrow.
व्यासोष्टतेभवेदेवं प्रोक्तं गणितकोविदैः
Thus, the diameter divided by eight is declared by those skilled in mathematics.
तुर्यांशेन शरध्नेनाघेनिनाधं चतुर्गणम्
By multiplying by a fourth part and by the arrow, and then subtracting, one obtains four times the measure.
ज्याङ्घ्रीषुध्नोवृत्तवर्गोबग्धिघ्नव्यासाढ्यमौर्विहृत्
The chord, arrow, and bowstring, together with the circle’s square, when multiplied and divided by the diameter, yield the mean value.
स्थूलमध्यापृवन्नवेधो वृत्ताङ्काशेषभागिकः
The gross, the mean, and the least thickness are determined by dividing the circle’s marks by the respective parts.

उत्सेधव्यासदैर्ध्याणामङ्गुल्यान्यस्य नो द्विज
The height, diameter, and length, O twice-born, are measured in finger-breadths, not otherwise.
विस्ताराद्यं गुलान्येवं मिथोघ्नान्यपसांभवेत्
Thus, the breadth and length, when multiplied together, yield the measure in cubits.
दीपशङ्कुतलच्छिद्रघ्नः शङ्कुर्भैवंभवेन्मुने
The lamp, the peg, and the hole, when multiplied together, O sage, yield the measure of the peg.
शङ्कौनृदीपाधश्छिद्रघ्नैर्दीपौच्च्यं नरान्विते
The peg, when multiplied by the lamp and the lower hole, gives the height of the lamp, O wise one.
दीपशङ्क्वन्तरं चाथ च्छायाग्रविवरघ्नभा
Then, the distance between the lamp and the peg, multiplied by the difference at the tip of the shadow,
प्रभाप्ता जायते दीपशिखौच्च्यं स्यात्त्रिराशिकात्
produces the extent of the light; the height of the lamp’s flame is three times the sign.
ग्रहमध्यादिकं वक्ष्ये गणिते नातिविस्तरान्

For Jupiter, the forms are ten, two, and one, and the invocation is likewise so.
शनेर्भुजगषट्पचरसवेदनिशाकराः
For Saturn, the forms are six, five, and the lunar forms, as well as those of the serpent.
वामं पातस्य च स्वग्नियमाश्विशिखिदस्रकाः
For the left side of the nodes, their own fire, restraint, horse, and the forms of ten are prescribed.
वसुव्द्यष्टाद्रिरूपाङ्कसप्ताद्रितिथयो युगे
The forms of the Vasus, two, eight, mountain forms, and seven mountain tithis are in the yuga.
तिथिक्षयायमार्थाक्षिद्व्यष्टव्योमशराश्विनः
With the loss of tithis, the forms are two, eight, sky, arrows, and the Ashvins.
षट्त्र्यग्निवेदग्निपञ्चशुभ्रांशुमासकाः
Six, three, fire, Veda, fire, five, and the shining rays are the months.
कौजस्य वेदस्वयमा बौधस्याष्टर्तुवह्नयः
For Mars, the Veda is its own; for Mercury, eight seasons and fires are prescribed.
गोग्नयः शनिमन्दस्य पातानामथवा मतः
For Saturn, the cows and fires are considered as the forms of the nodes.
कृताद्रिचन्द्राजैवस्य रवैकस्याग्निरवनन्दकाः
For Krita, mountain, moon, and victory, one sound, fire, and joy are prescribed.
वर्तमानयुगे पानावत्सराभगणाभिधाः
In the present yuga, the names of the years are given according to the planets.
