तत्कृतिं च त्यजेद्विप्र मूलेन विभजेत्पुनः
And that product, O Brahmin, should be abandoned, and divided again by the root.
समत्र्यङ्कहतिः प्रोक्तो घनस्तत्रविधिः पदे
The operation called 'samatra' is declared; the rule for the solid is in the place.
विशोध्यं विषमादन्त्याद्धनं तन्मूलमुच्यते
The wealth must be purified by the odd from the last; that is called the root.
तत्कृतित्वेन निहतान्निघ्नीं चापि विशोधयेत्
By that product, one should purify what has been struck down, and also the 'nighnī'.
अन्योन्यहारनिहतौ हरांशौ तु समुच्छिदा
In the mutual taking and striking down, the shares are to be exactly cut off.
भागप्रभागे विज्ञेयं मुने शास्रार्थचिन्तकैः
The proportion in the shares should be understood, O sage, by those who reflect on the meaning of the science.
भागास्तलस्थहारेण हरं स्वांशाधिकेन तान्
By taking away the shares from the total, one should assign to them their own increased shares.
कार्यस्तुल्यहरां शानां योगश्चाप्यन्ततो मुने
When the shares are equal, the combination is to be made at the end, O sage.
अंशाहतिश्छेदघातहृद्भिन्नगुणने फलम्
The result comes from the operation of subtracting, cutting, striking, and multiplying the differing shares.
शेषः कार्यो भागहारे कर्तव्यो गुणनाविधिः
The remainder should be taken in the division of shares; the rule of multiplication must be applied.
पदसिद्ध्यै पदे कुर्यादथोरवं सर्वतश्च रवम्
For the accomplishment of the step, one should produce a sound at each step and also a sound everywhere.
ऋणं स्वं स्वमृणं कुर्यादृश्ये राशिप्रसिद्धये
One should make one's own debt and the debt of oneself visible, for the attainment of the sign in the zodiac.
अंशस्त्वविकृतस्तत्र विलोमे शेषमुक्तवत्
The portion here remains unchanged; in the reverse, the remainder is as previously stated.
इष्टघ्नदृष्टेनैतेन भक्तराशिरनीशितः
By multiplying the desired with the observed, the quotient of the zodiac is obtained, not the unassigned.
राश्यन्तरहृतं वर्गोत्तरं योसुतश्च तौ
The difference between the zodiac signs is the surplus of the group; the one who is born, those two.
एको ऽस्य वर्गो दलितः सैको राशिः परो मतः
One group of this is divided; thus, one zodiac sign is considered superior.
वर्गयोगान्तरे व्येके राश्योर्वर्गोस्त एतयोः
In another union of groups, the single ones are the zodiac signs and the groups of these two.
एषीस्यानामुभे व्यक्ते गणिते व्यक्तमेव च
Both of the seekers are manifest, and in calculation only the manifest is considered.
दृष्टस्य च गुणार्द्धो न युतं वर्गीकृतं गुणः
Half of the product of the observed is not added; the product made into a group is the multiplier.
भक्तं तथा मूलगुणं ताभ्यां साध्योथ व्यक्तवत्
Similarly, the root multiplier divided by those two is achieved, just as with the manifest.
इच्छघ्नमाद्यहृत्सेष्टं फलं व्यस्ते विपर्ययात्
The desired multiplied by the first taken remainder is the result, separated by the reverse.
बहुराशिवधं भक्ते फलं स्वल्पवधेन च
The result of division by many zodiac signs, and also by division with a small number.
मानघ्नकालश्चातीतकालाघ्नफलसंहृताः
The time multiplied by the measure, and the result taken by multiplying the elapsed time.
बहुराशिपलात्स्वल्पराशिमासफलं बहु
From the result of many zodiac signs, the fruit of a few zodiac months is abundant.
क्षेपा मिश्रहताः क्षेपोयोगभक्ताः फलानि च
The throws mixed and struck, the throws divided by the union, and also the results.
पूर्णोगच्छेत्समेध्यव्येसमेवर्गोर्द्धितेत्यतः
The full one proceeds, the same for the excellent, and the same for the group’s increase, thus.
व्येकं व्येकगुणाप्तं च प्राध्नं मानं गुणोत्तरे
The single one, the product of the single one, and the principal measure in the superior multiplier.
श्रुतिकृत्यन्तरपद कोटिर्दोः कर्णवर्गयोः
The step of another action of hearing, the summit, and the fault of the ear and the group.
राश्योरन्तरवर्गेण द्विघ्ने घाते युते तयोः
By multiplying the difference between the two signs by two, and adding the product to their sum,
व्यास आकृतिसंक्षण्णोव्यासास्यात्परिधिर्मुने
the diameter, O sage, is said to be the result of the square root of that sum.
