दातारोनो ऽभिवर्द्धन्तां वेदाः संततिरेव च
May the donors increase, and may the Vedas and lineage flourish.
इत्युक्तो क्ताः प्रिया वाचः प्रणिपत्य विसर्जयेत्
When thus addressed with kind words, he should bow and dismiss them.
यस्मिंस्ते संश्रवाः पूर्वमर्ध्यपात्रे निवेशिताः
In whichever vessel the arghya was first placed for them,
प्रदक्षिणमनुव्रज्य भुञ्जीत पितृसेवितम्
He should follow them in a circle and then partake of the food offered to the ancestors.
एवं प्रदक्षिणावृत्त्या वृद्धौ नान्दीमुखान्पितॄन्
In this way, by circumambulation, he should honor the Nāndīmukha ancestors in the rite for increase.
एकोद्दिष्टं देवहीनमेवार्ध्यैकपवित्रकम्
For a single ancestor, for one who is divine, he should offer arghya with a single pavitra.
उपतिषअटतामक्षय्यस्थाने विप्रविसर्जने
At the time of the unending rite, when the Brahmin is dismissed,
गन्धोदकं तिलैर्युक्तं कुर्यात्पात्रचतुष्टयम्
One should prepare four vessels of scented water mixed with sesame seeds.
ये समाना इति द्वाभ्यां शेषं पूर्ववदाचरेत्
For those who are equals, with two, the remainder should be performed as before.
अर्वाक्सपिण्डीकरणं यस्य संवत्सराद्भवेत्
For whom the sapinda-relationship arises within a year,
भृते ऽहनि तु कर्तव्यं प्रतिमासं तु वत्सरम्
On the day of sustenance it should be done, and every month for a year.
पिण्डांश्चगो ऽजविप्रेभ्यो दद्यादग्नौ जले ऽपि वा
He should offer rice-balls to cows, goats, sheep, or into fire, or even in water.
हविष्यान्नेन वै मासं पायसेन तु वत्सरम्
For a month with sacrificial food, and for a year with milk-rice.
ऐणरौरववाराहशाशैर्मांसैर्यथाक्रमम्
With the flesh of antelope, sheep, boar, and hare, in due order.
खड्गामिषं महाकल्पं मधु मुन्यन्नमेव च
The meat of the rhinoceros is supremely fit, as are honey and ascetic food.
यो ददाति गयास्थश्च सर्वमानन्त्यमश्नुते
Whoever gives at Gayā attains all that is infinite.
कल्यां कन्यावेदिनश्च पशून्वै सत्सुतानपि
A virtuous wife, those who announce a maiden, cattle, and even good sons.
ब्रह्मवर्चस्विनः पुत्रान्स्वर्णरूप्ये सकुप्यके
Sons endowed with Brahmanic brilliance, gold and silver in a vessel.
प्रतिपत्प्रभृतिष्वेकां वर्जयित्वा चतुर्दशीम्
Beginning from the first lunar day, omitting only the fourteenth.
स्वर्गं ह्यपत्यमोजश्च शौर्यं क्षेत्रं बलं तथा
Heaven, offspring, strength, heroism, land, and also power.
प्रवृत्तं चक्रतां चैव वाणिज्यप्रभृतीनि च
Prosperity, rulership, and also business and the like.
धनं विद्यां भिषक् सिद्धिं कुप्यङ्गा अप्यजाविकम्
Wealth, knowledge, success in medicine, vessels, and even livelihood.
कृत्तिकादि भरण्यन्तं सकामानाप्नुयादिमान्
From Kṛttikā to Bharaṇī, he attains all desired things.
वसुरुद्रादितिसुताः पितरः श्राद्धदेवताः
The Vasus, Rudras, and Adityas—these sons are the deities of the śrāddha.
आयुः प्रजां धनं विद्यां स्वर्गं मोक्षं सुखानि च
Lifespan, offspring, wealth, knowledge, heaven, liberation, and pleasures—
इत्येवं कथितं किञ्चित्कल्पाध्याये विशेषतः
Thus, a portion has been described here, especially in the chapter on Kalpa.
य इमं चिन्तयेद्विद्वान्कल्पाध्यायं मुनीश्वर
O best of sages, the learned one who contemplates this chapter on Kalpa—
यः शृणोति नरो भक्त्या दैवे पित्र्ये च कर्मणि
Whoever listens with devotion to this, regarding both divine and ancestral rites—
धनं विद्यां यशः पुत्रान्परत्र च गतिं पराम्
He attains wealth, knowledge, fame, sons, and the highest path hereafter.
कथयिष्ये समासेन शृणुष्व सुसमाहितः
I shall now briefly explain; listen attentively and with full concentration.
