The elements are fivefold: water, space, wind, fire, and earth.
Space, wind, heat, moisture, and that which is of earth—
Knowledge, heat, and wind—these three are the constituents of the body.
Prāṇa and apāna, transformation, and the bodily elements arise here.
These five—called the senses—are qualities led by the mind.
They are called pleasure and pain, and also that which is neither pain nor pleasure.
These five excellent qualities, indeed, remain until death for the attainment of knowledge.
That is called the supreme purity, the imperishable great intellect.
Through improper perception, endless suffering does not cease.
Upon what foundation does the stream of suffering persist?
Listen to this, which will be spoken for liberation.
For those always misguided by falsehood, affliction brings suffering and darkness.
The abandonment of pleasure is austerity; yoga is completed in total renunciation.
For the removal of suffering, such renunciation leads to liberation from misfortune.
Now I shall declare the six, and the five organs of action.
Generation, speech, grasping, movement, and excretion are the organs of action.
Thus, these eleven were produced by the intellect and the mind.
So too with touch, form, as well as taste and smell.
By which this threefold state arises in succession.
In which the threefold Vedas are established, accomplishing all.

The signs of rajas are seen, whether there is a cause or not.
The various qualities of tamas persist in some way or another.
He is not tainted by undesirable results of actions, just as a lotus leaf is not wetted by water.
When he, freed, abandons pleasure and pain, then, without marks, he attains the highest state.
When merit is exhausted, sin is gone, and the results of bodily causes are destroyed—
Just as a spider, when its threads are spent, remains or departs, turning about—
As a deer leaves behind its old antler, or as a serpent sheds its skin—
As a fish, falling into a pond, is abandoned, or as a bird, with strength, descends—
So too, when he, freed, abandons pleasure and pain, he attains the supreme state, without marks.
