व्यात्क्रमेण प्रजाः सर्वा म्नियन्ते पापतत्पराः
All people, through transgression, will be inclined toward sin.
कामक्रोधपरा मूढा वृथासंतापपीडिताः
Deluded, absorbed in desire and anger, they will be tormented by useless anxieties.
उत्तमा नीचतां यान्ति नीचाश्चोत्तमतां तथा
The excellent will become lowly, and the lowly likewise will become excellent.
पीडयन्ति प्रजाश्चैव करैरत्यर्थयोजितैः
And the people will be oppressed by taxes imposed excessively.
धर्मस्त्रीष्वपि गच्छन्ति पतयो जारधर्मिणः
Even husbands will pursue adulterous conduct with other women.
परिस्त्रीनिरतः सर्वे परद्रव्यपरायणाः
All will be engaged with others' wives and intent upon others' wealth.
घोरे कलियुगे विप्र सर्वे पापरता जनाः
O Brahmin, in the dreadful age of Kali, all people will be devoted to sin.
सरित्तीरेषु कुद्दालैर्वापयिष्यन्ति चौषधीः
On the banks of rivers, with spades, they will uproot medicinal plants.
वेश्यालावंयशीलेषु स्पृहा कुर्वन्ति योषितः
Women will desire courtesans and those of charming appearance and conduct.
वेदविक्रयकाश्चान्ये शूद्राचाररता द्विजाः
Some will sell the Vedas, and twice-born men will delight in the conduct of Shudras.
न व्रतानि चरिष्यन्ति ब्राह्मणा द्रव्यलोलुपाः
Brahmins, greedy for wealth, will not observe vows.
द्विजाः कुर्वन्ति दंभार्थं पितृश्राद्धादिकाः क्रियाः
Twice-born men will perform rites for ancestors and others only for the sake of show.
दुग्धलोभनिमित्तेन गोषु प्रीतिं च कुर्वते
They will show affection for cows only out of greed for milk.
अपात्रेष्वेव दानानि प्रयच्छन्ति नराधमाः
The lowest of men will give gifts only to the unworthy.
न कस्यापि मनो विप्र विष्णुभक्तिपरं भवेत्
O Brahmin, no one’s mind will be devoted to devotion for Vishnu.
ताडयन्ति द्विजान्दुष्टाः कृष्णे कृष्णत्वमागते
The wicked will strike the twice-born when Krishna’s nature has come to Krishna.
प्रतिग्रहं प्रकुर्वन्ति पतितानामपि द्विजाः
Even from the fallen, the twice-born will accept gifts.
युगान्ते च हरेर्नाम नैवकश्चिद्वदिष्यति
At the end of the age, no one at all will utter the name of Hari.
शूद्रान्नभोगनिरता भविष्यन्ति कलौ द्विजाः
In the Kali age, the twice-born will be intent on eating food of the Shudras.
पाषण्डाश्चभविशष्यन्तिचतुराश्रमनिन्दकाः
Atheists will remain, revilers of the four stages of life.
द्विजातिधर्मान्गृह्णन्ति पाखण्डलिङ्गिनो ऽधमाः
The lowest, bearing the marks of heretics, will assume the duties of the twice-born.
शूद्राधर्मान्प्रवक्ष्यन्ती कूटयुक्तपरायणाः
Devoted to false reasoning, they will expound the duties of Shudras.
भविष्यन्तिदुरात्मानः शूद्राः प्रव्रजितास्तथा
There will be wicked-hearted Shudras and also those who have taken up renunciation.
धर्मटीनास्तु पाषण्डा कापाला भिक्षवो ऽधमाः
Among the ascetics, there will be atheists, skull-bearers, and the lowest of mendicants.
शूद्रा धर्मान्प्रवक्ष्यन्तिह्यधिरुह्योत्तमासनम्
Śūdras will expound on duties, having ascended to the highest seat.
पाषण्डाः प्रचारिष्यन्ति प्रायो वेदविदूषकाः
Heretics will mostly roam about, defilers of the Vedas.
भविष्यन्तिकलौ प्रायो धर्मविध्वंसका नराः
In the Kali age, most men will be destroyers of righteousness.
हर्तारं परवित्तानां भवितारो नराधमाः
The lowest of men will become thieves of others’ wealth.
आत्मस्तुतिपराः सर्वे परनिन्दापरास्तथा
All will be intent on self-praise and likewise devoted to slandering others.
भविष्यन्ति नरा विप्र कलौ चाधर्मबान्धवाः
In the Kali age, O brāhmaṇa, men will be companions of unrighteousness.
