देवानिन्द्रांश्च वक्ष्यामि शृणुष्व विबुधर्षभ
I shall tell you the gods and Indras; listen, O foremost among the wise.
शचीपतिः समाख्यातस्तेषामिन्द्रो महापतिः
Śacīpati is named as their Indra, the great lord.
विपश्चिन्नाम देवेन्द्रं सर्वसंपत्समन्वितः
Vipascin is the name of the lord of the gods, endowed with all prosperity.
तेषामिन्द्रः सुशान्तिश्च तृतीये परिकीर्तितः
Among them, Suśānti is named as the Indra in the third cycle.
विभानामा देवपतिः पञ्चमः परिकीर्तितः
Vibhāna is named as the fifth lord of the gods.
आर्याद्या विबुधाः प्रोक्तास्तेषा मिन्द्रो मनोजवः
The noble ones beginning with Ārya are called the gods; among them, Indra is swift as the mind.
इन्द्रः पुरन्दरः प्रोक्तः सर्वकामसमन्वितः
Indra, known as Purandara, is said to possess all desires.
विष्णुपूजाप्रभावेण तेषामिन्द्रो बलिः स्मृतः
By the power of worshipping Viṣṇu, among them Indra is remembered as Bali.
सुवासनाद्या विबुधा दशमे परिकीर्तिताः
The gods beginning with Suvāsana are described in the tenth.
विहॄङ्गॄमाद्या देवाश्च तेषामिन्द्रो वृषः स्मृतः
The gods beginning with Vihṝṅgṝmā; among them, Indra is remembered as Vṛṣa.
क्रभुवनामा च देवेन्द्रो हरिनाभास्तथा सुराः
Krabhuvana is named as the king of the gods, and Harinābha and other deities likewise.
दिवस्पतिर्महावीर्यस्तेषामिन्द्रः प्रकीर्तितः
Divaspati, of great might, is declared as Indra among them.
एवं ते मनवः प्रोक्ता इन्द्रा देवाश्च तत्त्वतः
Thus, the Manus and the Indras and gods have been described in truth.
एकस्मिन्ब्रह्मदिवसे स्वाधिकारं प्रभुञ्जते
In one day of Brahmā, they exercise their respective authority.
कर्त्तारो बहवः संति तत्संख्यां वेत्ति कोविदः
There are many creators; the learned know their number.
तेषां संख्या न संख्यातु शक्तो ऽस्म्यद्य द्विजोत्तम
I am not able to enumerate their number today, O best of twice-born.
चत्वारो मनवो ऽतीता मम श्रीश्चातिविस्तरा
Four Manus have passed, and my glory is exceedingly vast.
ततः परं गमिष्यामि कर्मभूमिं शृणुष्व मे
After that, I shall proceed to the realm of action; listen to me.
वदतां शृण्वतां चैव सर्वपापप्रणाशनम्
For those who speak and listen, it destroys all sins.
स्थितश्च भूमिभागे वै अमेध्यामिषभोजनः
One who remains in a portion of the earth, eating impure meat.
पतितो व्याधशस्त्रेण सायं विष्णोर्गृहाङ्गणे
Having fallen by the hunter's weapon in the evening, in the courtyard of Viṣṇu's house.
जग्राह मां स्ववक्रेण श्वभिरन्यैश्चरन्द्रुतः
He seized me with his curved hand, and others, along with dogs, rushed about.
गतः प्रदक्षिणा कारं विष्णोस्तन्मन्दिरं प्रभो
He went, performing circumambulation, to the temple of Vishnu, O Lord.
मम चापि शुनश्चापि दत्तावन्परमं पदम्
To me and even to the dog, the supreme abode has been granted.
संप्राप्तं विबुधश्रेष्ठ किं पुनः सम्यगर्चनात्
Having attained it, O best of the gods, what more could be gained by proper worship?
मनसा प्रीतिमापन्नो हरिपूजा रतो ऽभवत्
He attained joy in his mind and became devoted to the worship of Hari.
तानर्चयन्ति सततं ब्रह्माद्या देवतागणाः
Those are constantly worshipped by Brahma and the hosts of deities.
कथं भवत्युग्रभवस्य बन्धस्तत्सङ्गलुब्धा यदि मुक्तिभाजः
How can the bondage of fierce existence occur if those attached to it are destined for liberation?
ते सर्वपापनिकरैः परितो विमुक्ता विष्णोः पदं शुभतरं प्रतियान्ति हृष्टाः
They, freed from all sins by every means, joyfully proceed to the most auspicious abode of Vishnu.
ध्यानेन तेन हतकिल्बिषचेतनास्ते मातुः पयोधररसं न पुनः पिबन्ति
By meditation, their minds freed from sin, they do not again drink the essence of their mother's breast.
