वसाद्य ज्ञानमासाद्य परं मोक्षं गमिष्यसि
By dwelling there and gaining knowledge, you will attain supreme liberation.
उपायं तव वक्ष्यामस्तं निबोध महामते
I shall tell you the means; listen to it, O wise one.
दत्त्वोद्धर महाभाग भ्रातरं कृपयान्वितः
Give, O highly fortunate one, and rescue your brother with compassion.
तत्फलं प्रददौ तस्मै भ्रात्रे पापविमुक्तये
He gave that fruit to his brother for the removal of sin.
बभूव यमदूतास्तु तं त्यक्त्वा प्रपलायिताः
Then the messengers of Yama, abandoning him, fled away.
तदा सुमाली स्वर्यानमारुह्य मुमुदे मुने
At that time, O sage, Sumāli ascended to heaven and rejoiced.
अवापतुर्भृशं प्रीतिं समालिङ्ग्य परस्परम्
They experienced great joy, embracing each other.
गीयमानौ च गन्धर्वैर्विष्णुलोकं प्रजग्मतुः
Sung by the Gandharvas, they went to Viṣṇu's world.
यज्ञमाली चोषतुस्तौ कल्पमेकं मुदान्वितौ
Yajñamālī also dwelled there with him for one kalpa, filled with joy.
तत्रैव ज्ञानसंपन्नः परं मोक्षमुपागतः
There itself, endowed with knowledge, he attained supreme liberation.
स्थित्वा भूमिं पुनः प्राप्य विप्रत्वं समुपागतः
Having regained the earth, he once again attained the state of a Brahmin.
सर्वसंपत्समोपेतो हरिभक्तिपरायणः
Endowed with every prosperity, he became devoted to the worship of Hari.
तत्र स्नातश्च गङ्गायां दृष्ट्वा विश्वेश्वरं प्रभुम्
There, having bathed in the Ganges, he beheld the Lord, Viśveśvara.
उपलेपनमाहात्म्यं कथितं ते मुनीश्वर
The greatness of the unguent was explained to you, O best of sages.
अकामादपि ये विष्णोः सकृत्पूजां प्रकुर्वते
Even those who, without desire, perform the worship of Viṣṇu just once,
हरिभक्तिरतान्यस्तु हरिबुद्ध्या समर्चयेत्
Those who are devoted to Hari's worship should honor him with the understanding of Hari.
हरिभक्तिपराणां तु संगिनां संगमात्रतः
Even by mere association with those devoted to Hari, one attains benefit.
हरिपूजापराणां च हरिनामरतात्मनाम्
Those absorbed in Hari's worship and whose minds delight in Hari's name,
शुश्रूषानिरता यान्ति पापिनो ऽपि परां गतिम्
Even sinners who are intent on service to them attain the highest state.
कस्य नो जायते प्रीतिः श्रोतुं हरिकथामृतम्
Who does not feel joy in hearing the nectar of Hari's stories?
एकमेव हरेर्नाम सर्वपापप्रणाशनम्
The name of Hari alone destroys all sins.
श्वपचं तं विजानीयात्कदाचिन्नालपेञ्च तम्
Know him as a dog-eater; never speak with him.
श्मशानसदृशं तद्धि कदाचिदपि नो विशेत्
He is like a cremation ground; never enter his presence, even once.
गोद्विजद्वेषनिरता राक्षसाः परिकीर्त्तिताः
Those who are intent on hating cows and Brahmins are called Rākṣasas.
समर्चयति गोविन्दं तत्पूजा विफला भवेत्
If such a person worships Govinda, that worship becomes fruitless.
सा पूजैव महाभाग पूजकानाशु हॄन्ति वै
That very worship, O illustrious one, quickly destroys the worshipers themselves.
तमेव विष्मुद्वेष्टारं प्राहुस्तत्त्वार्त्थकोविदाः
Those learned in truth declare him to be a hater of Viṣṇu.
धर्मकार्यरताः शश्वद्विष्णुरुपास्तु ते मताः
Those who are always engaged in righteous deeds are considered forms of Viṣṇu.
दृढभक्तिमतां विष्णौ पापबुद्धिः कथं भवेत्
How could one whose devotion to Viṣṇu is firm ever possess an evil mind?
क्षयं याति क्षणादेव तेषां स्यात्पापधीः कथम्
For such people, any sinful thought perishes instantly; how could wickedness remain in them?
