तस्यास्तुष्टो जगन्नाथो ददाति स्वपदं मुने
When the Lord of the universe is pleased with her, He grants her His own abode, O sage.
देवपूजापराश्चैव तेषां तुष्यति केशवः
Those who are devoted to worshipping the gods, Keśava is satisfied with them.
मा कुरुष्व ह्यहङ्कारं विद्युल्लोलश्रिया वृथा
Do not indulge in pride, for fleeting wealth is as unstable as lightning.
राजादिभिर्धनं बाध्यं सम्पदः क्षणभङ्गुराः
Wealth is troubled by kings and others; riches are destroyed in a moment.
हतं च भोजनाद्यैश्च कियदायुः समाहृतम्
How much life is gathered, which is lost through food and other enjoyments?
कियद्विषयभोगैश्च कदा धर्मान्करिष्यति
How much is spent in sensual pleasures, and when will one perform righteous deeds?
वयस्येव ततो धर्मान्कुरु त्वमनहङ्कृतः
Therefore, while you are young, perform righteous deeds without pride.
वरुर्विनाशनिलयमापदां परमं पदम्
The highest state is the refuge from calamities and destruction.
किमर्थं शाश्वतधिया कुर्यात्पापं नरो वृथा
Why should a man commit sin in vain, with the thought of permanence?
विश्वासो नात्र कर्त्तव्यो निश्चितं मृत्युसंकुले
One should not place trust here, certainly, in the midst of death's uncertainty.
देहयोगनिवृत्त्यर्थं सद्य एव जनार्दनम्
For the sake of ending the body's union, worship Janārdana at once.
भजस्व सततं विष्णुं मानुष्यमतिदुर्लभम्
Constantly worship Viṣṇu; human birth is exceedingly rare.
संभ्रान्तस्य तु मानुष्यं कथञ्चित्परिलभ्यते
For the confused, human birth is somehow attained.
भोगबुद्धिस्तथा नॄणां जन्मान्तरतपः फलम्
The tendency for enjoyment among men is the result of austerities in previous births.
मूर्खः को ऽस्ति परस्तस्माज्जडबुद्धिरचेतनः
Who is more foolish than one who is dull-minded and insensible?
तेषामतीव मूर्खाणां विवेकः कुत्र तिष्ठति
Where does discernment reside among those who are extremely foolish?
कस्तं न पूजयेद्विप्रसंसाराप्रिप्रदीपितः
Who would not worship that Brāhmaṇa, illuminated by the lamp of liberation from worldly existence?
विष्णुभक्तिविहीनश्च द्विजो ऽपि श्वपचाधमः
Even a twice-born who lacks devotion to Viṣṇu is lower than a dog-eater.
यस्मिंस्तुष्टे ऽखिलं तुष्येद्यतः सर्वगतो हरिः
When he is pleased, all is pleased, for Hari pervades everything.
तथःआ चराचरं विश्वं विष्णाविव प्रलीयते
Thus, the entire universe, moving and unmoving, dissolves into Viṣṇu.
तथैव हरिणा व्यात्पं विश्वमेतच्चराचरम्
In the same way, by Hari the whole world, both animate and inanimate, is enveloped.
उभे ते निकटे विद्धि तन्नाशो हरिसेवया
Know that both are near; their destruction comes through service to Hari.
संसारपाशविच्छेदीकस्तं न प्रतिपूजयेत्
He who severs the bonds of worldly existence should not be neglected.
यं समभ्यर्च्य विप्रर्षे मोक्षभागी भवेन्नरः
By worshipping him, O best of sages, a man attains liberation.
हरिनाम्नि स्थिते लोकः संसारे परिवर्त्तते
When the world abides in the name of Hari, it revolves within samsara.
नीयमानो यमभटैरशक्तो धर्मसाधनैः
Led away by the servants of Yama, he is powerless to practice righteousness.
तावदेवार्चयेद्विष्णुं यदि मुक्तिमभीप्सति
He should worship Viṣṇu as long as he desires liberation.
मृत्युः संनिहितो भूयात्तस्माद्धर्मपरो भवेत्
Death is always near; therefore, one should be devoted to righteousness.
विनश्वरं समाज्ञाय धर्मं नैवाचरत्ययम्
Recognizing that all is perishable, he does not practice dharma.
दम्भाचारं परित्यज्यं वासुदेवं समर्चयेत्
Abandoning hypocritical conduct, he should worship Vāsudeva.
