श्रीवत्सवक्षसं देवं सुरासुरनमस्कृतम्
The divine one whose chest bears the mark of Śrīvatsa, honored by gods and demons alike.
ध्यायेदात्मानमव्यक्तं परात्परतरं विभुमट्
One should meditate on the Self as unmanifest, supreme beyond the supreme, and all-pervading.
ध्यानं कृत्वा मुहुर्त्तं वा परं मोक्षं लभेन्नरः
By practicing meditation, even for a moment, a person attains the highest liberation.
ध्यानात्प्रसीदति हरिद्धर्यानात्सर्वार्थसाधनम्
Through meditation, Hari becomes pleased; through concentration, all purposes are fulfilled.
तेन ध्यानेन तुष्टात्मा हरिर्मोक्षं ददाति वै
When the soul is satisfied by that meditation, Hari indeed grants liberation.
ध्यानं ध्येयं ध्यातृभावं यथा नश्यति निर्भरम्
When meditation, the object of meditation, and the meditator's sense of self completely dissolve.
भवेन्निरन्तरं ध्यानादभेदप्रतिपादनम्
Through uninterrupted meditation, the realization of non-difference arises.
निर्वातदीपवत्संस्थः समाधिरभिधीयते
When established like a lamp sheltered from wind, that state is called samādhi.
न जिघ्रति न स्पृशति न किञ्चद्वक्ति सत्तम
He does not smell, touch, or speak anything, O noble one.
सर्वोपाधिविनिर्मुक्तो योगिनां भात्यचञ्चलः
Freed from all limiting conditions, the yogi shines, unwavering.
विभात्यज्ञाननाशे तु यथापूर्वं व्यवस्थितम्
When ignorance is destroyed, it appears as it was before, established.
तन्नाशे निर्मलं ब्रह्म प्रकाशयति पण्डितं
When that is destroyed, pure Brahman reveals itself to the wise.
सर्वेषामेव भूतानामन्तर्यामितया स्थितम्
Present within all beings as the inner ruler.
पश्यन्ति यज्ज्ञानविदां वरिष्टाः परात्परस्मात्परमं पवित्रम्
The foremost among those who know, see that which is supreme beyond the supreme, the most pure.
पुराणपुरुषो ऽनादिः शब्दब्रह्मेति गीयते
The ancient, primeval Person is sung as the Sound-Brahman.
आनन्दं निर्मलशान्तं परं ब्रह्मेति गीयते
He is blissful, pure, peaceful, and is called the Supreme Brahman.
अविकारमजं शुद्धं परं ब्रह्मेति गीयते
He is changeless, unborn, pure, and is called the Supreme Brahman.
संसारतापतत्पानां सुधावृष्टिसमं नृणाम्
For those scorched by the heat of worldly existence, it is like a shower of nectar for people.
नादरुपमनौपम्यमर्द्धमात्रोपरिस्थितम्
It is of the nature of sound, incomparable, and established above the half-syllable.
मकारं रुद्ररुपं स्यादर्ध्दमात्रं परात्मकम्
The syllable 'ma' is of the form of Rudra; the half-syllable is of the nature of the Supreme.
तेषां समुच्चयं विप्र परब्रह्मप्रबोधकम्
O wise one, their conjunction brings about the realization of the Supreme Brahman.
वाच्यवाचकसंबन्धो ह्युपचारात्तयोर्द्विजा
The relation of the signifier and the signified, O twice-born, is by figurative usage in both.
तदभ्यासेन संयुक्ताः परं मोक्षं लभन्ति च
By joining with its practice, they attain the supreme liberation.
कोटिसूर्यसमं तेजो ध्यायेदात्मनि निर्मलम्
One should meditate within oneself on a radiance as pure as ten million suns.
यद्यत्पापहरं वस्तु तत्तद्वा चिन्तयेद्धृदि
Whatever thing removes sin, that alone should be contemplated in the heart.
एतद्विदित्वा योगीन्द्रो लभते मोक्षमुत्तमम्
Knowing this, the lord of yogis attains the highest liberation.
स सर्वपापनिर्मुक्तो हरिसालोक्यमान्पुयात्
Freed from all sins, he attains the same world as Hari.
इदानीमपि सर्वज्ञ यत्पृच्छामि तदुच्यताम्
Now, O all-knowing one, whatever I ask, let that be told.
यस्य तुष्यति सर्वेशस्तस्य भक्तिश्च शाश्वतम्
He with whom the Lord of all is pleased, his devotion is eternal.
तन्ममाख्याहि सर्वज्ञ मुने कारुण्यवारिधे
Tell me that, O all-knowing sage, O ocean of compassion.
