विन्यस्य हृदये तारं भूः शिरस्यथ विन्यसेत्
Placing the syllable 'Om' on the heart, then 'Bhu' on the head,
भूर्भुवः स्वस्तथात्रास्त्रं दिक्षु तालत्रयं न्यसेत्
One should place 'Bhu', 'Bhuvah', and 'Svah', as well as the protective mantra, in the three directions.
आगच्छ वरदे देवि त्र्यक्षरे ब्रह्मवादिनि
Come, O bestower of boons, O goddess, O three-syllabled, O knower of Brahman.
मध्याह्ने वृषभारुढां शुक्लांबरसमावृताम्
At midday, envision her riding a bull, clothed in white garments.
सायं तु गरुडारुढां पीतांबरसमावृत्ताम्
In the evening, envision her riding Garuda, clothed in yellow garments.
तारं च व्याहृतीः सत्प त्रिपदां च समुच्चरन्
Reciting the syllable, the sacred vyahritis, and the three-footed mantra together,
वाममध्यात्परैर्वायुं क्रमेण प्राणसंयमे
From the left, the center, and the right, restrain the breath in sequence through pranayama.
आपः पुनन्तु मध्याह्ने सायमग्निश्चमेति च
Let the waters purify at midday, and fire in the evening, thus it is said.
सुमुत्रिया न इत्युक्त्वा नासास्पृष्टजलेन च
Having said, 'May it not be impure by urine,' and with water that has not touched the nose,
ऋतं च सत्यमेतेन कृत्वा चैवाधमर्षणम्
Having performed the act of purification with this, one should also recite, 'Truth and righteousness.'
ततः सूर्याय विधिवद्गन्धं पुष्पं जलाञ्जलिम्
Then, according to the proper rite, offer fragrance, flowers, and water to the Sun.
ऊर्द्धूबाहुरधोबाहुः क्रमात्कल्यादिके त्रिके
With the right arm raised and the left arm lowered, in sequence, at the beginning of the day, in the three periods.
सौराञ्छैवान्वैष्णवांश्च मन्त्रानन्यांश्च नारद
Recite, O Nārada, the Sāvitra, Vaiṣṇava, and other mantras as appropriate.
ततो ऽङ्गानि त्रिरावर्त्य ध्यायेच्छक्तीस्तदात्मिकाः
Then, revolving the limbs three times, one should meditate on the energies that are inherent in them.
हंसारोहणकेलिखण्खण्मणेर्बिबार्चिता भूषिता गायत्री परिभाविता भवतु नः संपत्समृद्ध्यै सदा
May Gāyatrī, who is adorned with the sound of anklets during the playful ascent of the swan, and who is revered and contemplated, always bring us prosperity and abundance.
विद्युद्दामजटाकलापविलसद्वार्लेदुमौलिर्मुदा सावित्री वृषवाहना सिततनुर्ध्येया यजूरूपिणी
Let Sāvitrī, radiant with locks shining like lightning and crowned with the crescent moon, joyful, riding the bull, fair-bodied, to be meditated upon as the embodiment of the Yajurveda.
तार्क्ष्यस्था मणिनूपुराङ्गदलसद्ग्रैवेयभूषोज्ज्वला हस्तालङ्कृतशङ्खचक्रसुगदापह्माश्रियै चास्तु नः
Seated upon Garuḍa, adorned with jeweled anklets and a shining necklace, her hands holding conch, discus, and mace—may she ever bestow prosperity upon us.
सायङ्काले समासीनो भक्त्या तद्गतमानसः
In the evening, seated with devotion and mind absorbed in that (deity),
त्रिपदां प्रणवोपेतां भूर्भुवः स्वरुपक्रमाम्
One should recite the three-footed Gāyatrī, accompanied by the praṇava, in the order of Bhūḥ, Bhuvaḥ, and Svaḥ.
गृहस्थस्य सत्तारः स्याज्जप्य एवंविधो मुने
For a householder, O sage, such recitation is considered the sustainer of existence.
गायत्र्यै च सवित्रे च प्रक्षिपेदञ्जलिद्रूयम्
One should offer water with joined palms to Gāyatrī and Sāvitrī.
ब्रह्मणेशेन हरिणानुज्ञाता गच्छ सादरम्
Having been permitted by Brahmā, Śiva, and Hari, depart with reverence.
प्रातरादेः परं कर्म कुर्यादपि विधानतः
After the morning rites, one should perform other duties as prescribed.
वानप्रस्थश्च देवर्षे स्नायात्र्निषवणं यतिः
O divine sage, the forest-dweller and the ascetic should bathe and perform purification.
ब्रह्मयज्ञं ततः कुर्याद्दर्भपाणिर्मुनीश्वर
Then, O best of sages, holding darbha grass in hand, one should perform the Brahma-yajña.
शर्वर्याः प्रथमे यामे तानि कुर्याद्यथाक्रमम्
During the first watch of the night, one should perform these acts in the proper order.
पाषण्डः स हि विज्ञेयः सर्वधर्मबहिष्कृतः
He should be known as a heretic, excluded from all duties of dharma.
परित्यजति तं विद्यान्महापातकिनां वरम्
It is better to abandon him, for he is to be regarded as a great sinner.
ते यान्ति नरकान्घोरान्यावच्चन्द्रार्कतारकम्
They go to terrible hells for as long as the moon, sun, and stars endure.
तत्रात्यमतिथिं सम्यगन्नाद्यैश्च प्रपूजयेत्
There, one should properly honor a guest with food and other offerings.
