Those who are always peaceful and speak for the good of all the world—let my attendants stay far from them; I have no authority over such as these.
Abandon at once those who are always engaged in giving to worthy recipients, who are truly destitute, and who are devoted to the name of Hari.
Likewise, abandon those messengers who regard Shiva and Hari with equal mind, and those intent on helping others among men.
But bring to my house those sinners who are not gladdened by the sprinkling of water from the feet of the wise.
Messengers, bring here those who delight in deceiving the gods, who destroy people, and who are devoted to wrongdoing.
Messengers, bring here the one who destroys the village, who is utterly hostile, and who is greedy for the wealth of Brahmins.
Also, bring here by force those extremely wicked fools who never go to Vishnu’s temple.
That act, which was condemned, I remember as having been burned away by my repentance.
There itself, all my sins, without exception, were destroyed.
Yama, shining like a thousand suns, bowed to him.

When Yama spoke, they placed their highest trust in him.
He immediately sent him to the supreme abode of Vishnu.
By that deed, O best of sages, I dwelled in Vishnu’s world.
After remaining in Vishnu’s realm, I later went to Indra’s world.
Having stayed in heaven for that time, I then came to earth.
Because I possess memory of past births, O best of sages, I know all this.
Formerly, I did not know that this was the vow of Ekadashi.
Here, the fruit of whatever action is performed even by oneself is this.
Therefore, O foremost of Brahmins, I shall observe the auspicious vow of Ekadashi.
Those men who faithfully observe the vow of Ekadashi—
Hearing his son’s words in this way, the sage Galava was pleased.
My birth has become fruitful; my lineage has been purified.
Thus, with his mind satisfied by the actions of his son,
With both restraint and openness, what else do you wish to hear?
The son of Brahma, filled with joy, again spoke of the essence of vows, which dispel the multitude of sins.
The narration of vows is supremely meritorious and bestows devotion to Hari when recounted properly.
Likewise, the conduct of all ashramas and the procedures for atonement should be explained.
Out of great compassion, you ought to speak to me properly.
Hari, the imperishable, is worshipped by those devoted to the conduct of varna and ashrama.
I shall tell you this according to the rules, for you are devoted to the transcendental Lord.
