तावद्युगसहस्राणि हरिसारुप्यमश्नुते
For as many thousands of ages, one attains resemblance to Hari.
ते ऽपि सर्वे प्रमुच्यन्ते महापातककोटिभिः
All those others too are released from millions of great sins.
कर्तुः सर्वाणि पापानि धुनोति निमिषार्द्धतः
He shakes off all the doer's sins in half a moment.
स देवयानेन दिवं यातीव सुमतिर्नृपः
That wise king ascends to heaven by the path of the gods.
सर्वकर्मवरिष्टं च त्वयोक्तं ध्वजधारणम्
You have described the bearing of the banner as the best of all acts.
त्वयोक्तस्तस्य चरितं विस्तरेण ममादिश
You have spoken of his deeds; instruct me in detail.
ब्रह्मणा कथितं मह्यं सर्वपापप्रणाशनम्
It was told to me by Brahmā, as the destroyer of all sins.
सोमवंशोद्भवः श्रीमान्सत्पद्वीपैकनायकः
He was born in the lunar dynasty, glorious, the sole lord of the Satpadvīpa.
सर्वलक्षणसंपन्नः सर्वसंपद्विभूषितः
He was endowed with all auspicious marks and adorned with every kind of wealth.
हरिभक्तिपराणां च शुश्रूषुर्निरहॄङ्कृतिः
He served those devoted to Hari, without any pride.
सर्वभूतहितः शान्तः कृतज्ञः कीर्तिमांस्तथा
He was devoted to the welfare of all beings, peaceful, grateful, and renowned.
पतिव्रता पतिप्राणा नाम्रा सत्यमतिर्मुने
She was devoted to her husband, regarding him as her very life, upright, and steadfast in truth, O sage.
जातिस्मरौ महाभागौ सत्यज्ञौ सत्परायणौ
They were mindful of their lineage, greatly fortunate, truthful in speech, and devoted to righteousness.
तडागारामवप्रादौ नसंख्यातान्वितेनतुः
They constructed countless ponds, gardens, and groves.
नृत्यत्यत्यन्तसन्तुष्टा मनोज्ञा सञ्जुवादिनी
She danced, exceedingly content, charming, and singing sweetly.
ध्वजमारोपयत्येव मनोज्ञं बहुविस्तरम्
She would raise a beautiful, expansive banner.
प्रिमां मत्यमतिं चाम्य देवा अपि सदास्तुवन्
Even the gods always praised her supreme mind and intellect.
आययौ बहुभिः शिप्यैर्द्रष्टुकामो विभाण्डकः
Vibhāṇḍaka came, eager to see, accompanied by many disciples.
प्रत्युद्ययौ सपत्नीकः प्रजा भिर्बहुविस्तरम्
He, along with his wife and subjects, went forth to meet him, in great numbers.
नीचासनस्थितो भूयः प्राञ्जलिर्मुनिमब्रवीत्
Seated on a low seat, with joined palms, he addressed the sage.
सतामायमनं सन्तं प्रशंसन्ति सुरवावहम्
The virtuous praise this gathering of the good, which brings delight even to the gods.
तेजः कीर्तिर्धनं पुत्रा इति प्रहुर्विपश्चितः
The wise declare that energy, fame, wealth, and sons arise there.
यत्र सन्तः प्रकुर्वन्ति महतीं करुणां प्रभो
Where the good perform great acts of compassion, O lord,
स स्नातः सर्वतीर्थेषु पुण्यात्मा नात्र संशयः
He is as if bathed in all the sacred waters, his soul purified—there is no doubt of this.
मामाज्ञापय विप्रेन्द्र किं प्रियं करवाणि ते
Command me, O foremost of Brahmins—what may I do to please you?
स्पृशषन्करेण तं प्रीत्युवाचातिहर्षितः
Touched with his hand, he spoke to him with affection, exceedingly delighted.
विनयावनतः सर्वो बहुश्रेयो लभेदिह
One who is humble and respectful gains many blessings in this world.
विनयाल्लभते मर्त्यो दुर्लभं किं महात्मनाम्
Through humility, a mortal attains even that which is difficult for great souls to obtain.
स्वस्ति ते सततं भूयाद्यत्पृच्छामि तदुच्यताम्
May well-being always be yours; speak now what I am about to ask.
तासु नित्यं ध्वजारोपे वर्त्त्से त्वं सदोद्यतः
Among them, you should always be ready for the raising of the banner.
