योगिनोयं न पश्यन्ति तं वन्दं ज्ञानरुपुणम्
The yogis do not see him; I bow to him, whose form is knowledge.
पादो ऽभूद्यस्य पृथिवी तं वन्दे विश्वरुपिणम्
The earth became his foot; I bow to him, who has the form of the universe.
ऋक्सामयजुपी येन तं वन्दे ब्रह्ररुपिणम्
By whom the Rig, Sama, and Yajur Vedas exist—I bow to him, who is of the form of Brahman.
वैश्या यस्यो रुतो जाताः पद्भघ्यां शूद्रो व्यजायत
From whose thighs the Vaiśyas were born, and from whose feet the Śūdra arose.
स्वभावविमलं शुद्धं निर्विकारं निरञ्जनम्
Whose nature is pure, spotless, changeless, and stainless.
सद्भक्तवत्सलं विष्णुं भक्तिगम्यं नमाम्यहम्
I bow to Vishnu, who is dear to true devotees, attainable through devotion.
सूक्ष्मासूक्ष्याणि येनासंस्तं वन्दे सर्वतोमुखम्
By whom the subtle and the gross exist—I bow to him, who faces all directions.
निर्गुणं परमं सूक्ष्मं प्रणतो ऽस्ति पुनः पुनः
To the qualityless, supreme, and subtle one, I bow again and again.
यमामनन्ति योगान्द्राः सर्वकारणकारणम्
Whom the lords of yoga proclaim as the cause of all causes.
निर्गुणः परमात्मा च स मे विष्णुः प्रसीदतु
May that Vishnu, who is the qualityless Supreme Self, be gracious to me.
ज्ञानिनां सर्वगो यस्तु स मे विष्णुः प्रसीदतु
May that Viṣṇu, who is all-pervading and known by the wise, be gracious to me.
हूयते च पुनर्द्वातार्थंभ्यां स मे विष्णुः प्रतीदतु
May that Viṣṇu, who is again invoked for the sake of the two doors, be favorable to me.
गतिदाता विश्वमृग्यः स मे विष्णुः प्रसूदतु
May that Viṣṇu, giver of the path and sought by the whole universe, be gracious to me.
तानर्चयन्ति विबुधाः स मे विष्णुः प्रसीदतु
May that Viṣṇu, whom the gods worship, be gracious to me.
निर्गुणं च गुणाधारं स मे विष्णुः प्रसीदतु
May that Viṣṇu, who is beyond qualities yet the support of all qualities, be gracious to me.
आचार्यं पूजयेत्पश्चाद्दक्षिणाच्छादनादिभिः
Afterwards, one should honor the teacher with gifts, clothing, and the like.
पुत्रमत्रिकलत्राद्यैः स्वयं च सह बन्धुभिः
Together with his son, mother, wife, and others, as well as himself and his relatives.
तस्य पुण्यफलं वक्ष्ये शृणुष्व सुसमाहितः
I shall declare to you the fruit of this merit; listen attentively.
तावन्ति पापजालानि नश्यन्त्येव न संशयः
Just as many nets of sin are destroyed—there is no doubt.
ध्वजं विष्णुगृहे कृत्वा मुच्यते सर्वपातकैः
By raising a banner at Viṣṇu’s temple, one is freed from all sins.
तावद्युगसहस्राणि हरिसारुप्यमश्नुते
For as many thousands of ages, one attains resemblance to Hari.
ते ऽपि सर्वे प्रमुच्यन्ते महापातककोटिभिः
All those others too are released from millions of great sins.
कर्तुः सर्वाणि पापानि धुनोति निमिषार्द्धतः
He shakes off all the doer's sins in half a moment.
स देवयानेन दिवं यातीव सुमतिर्नृपः
That wise king ascends to heaven by the path of the gods.
सर्वकर्मवरिष्टं च त्वयोक्तं ध्वजधारणम्
You have described the bearing of the banner as the best of all acts.
त्वयोक्तस्तस्य चरितं विस्तरेण ममादिश
You have spoken of his deeds; instruct me in detail.
ब्रह्मणा कथितं मह्यं सर्वपापप्रणाशनम्
It was told to me by Brahmā, as the destroyer of all sins.
सोमवंशोद्भवः श्रीमान्सत्पद्वीपैकनायकः
He was born in the lunar dynasty, glorious, the sole lord of the Satpadvīpa.
सर्वलक्षणसंपन्नः सर्वसंपद्विभूषितः
He was endowed with all auspicious marks and adorned with every kind of wealth.
हरिभक्तिपराणां च शुश्रूषुर्निरहॄङ्कृतिः
He served those devoted to Hari, without any pride.
