स्नापयेद्द्रोणपयसा हृषीकेशं जगद्गुरुम्
He should bathe Hṛṣīkeśa, the teacher of the world, with a measure of milk.
चरुणा मधुयुक्तेन शतमष्टोत्तरं हुनेत्
He should offer one hundred and eight oblations with a sweetened rice dish.
सार्धाढकं च गोधूमान्दक्षिणां हेम शक्तितः
As a gift, one should give one and a half āḍhakas of wheat and gold according to one's means.
मह्यं सर्वसुखं देहि गोधूमस्य प्रदानतः
By the offering of wheat, grant me all happiness.
सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तो ब्रह्ममेधफलं लभेत्
Freed from all sins, one attains the fruit of the Brahmamedha sacrifice.
पद्मनाभं चपयसा स्नापयेद्भक्तितः शुचिः
With devotion and purity, one should bathe Padmanābha with milk.
तिलब्रीहियवाज्यैश्च पूजयेच्च विधानतः
One should worship with sesame, rice, barley, and clarified butter, according to the proper method.
दद्याद्विप्राय कुडवं मधुनस्तु सदक्षिणम्
One should give a kuḍava of honey to a brāhmaṇa, always with a suitable gift.
मधुदानेन सुप्रीतो भवसर्वसुखप्रदः
By the gift of honey, the Lord is greatly pleased and bestows all happiness.
ब्रह्ममेधसहस्रस्य फलमान्पोति निश्चितम्
The result is certainly equal to a thousand Brahmamedha sacrifices.
क्षीरेणाकढकमानेन दन्धा वाज्येन तावता
With the measure of an āḍhaka of milk, or with clarified butter in the same amount,
अष्टोत्तरशतं हुत्वा मघ्वाज्याक्ततिलाहुतीः
Having offered one hundred and eight oblations of sesame mixed with honey and clarified butter,
प्रातः संपूजयेद्देवं पद्मपुष्पैर्मनोरमैः
In the morning, one should worship the deity with delightful lotus flowers.
पञ्चभक्ष्ययुतं चान्नं दद्याद्विप्राय भक्तितः
With devotion, one should give food accompanied by five kinds of edibles to a brāhmaṇa.
त्राहिमां कृपया देव शारणागतपालकः
Protect me with compassion, O Lord, guardian of those who seek refuge.
दक्षिणाञ्च यथाशक्त्या ब्राह्मणांश्वापि भोजयेत्
One should also feed brāhmaṇas and give gifts according to one's ability.
अश्वमेघ सहस्राणां द्विगुणं फलमश्नुते
One attains twice the merit of a thousand aśvamedha sacrifices.
संवत्सरं मुनिश्रेष्ठ स याति परम पदम्
O best of sages, in one year he attains the supreme abode.
तत्तत्फलमवान्पोति प्रान्पोति च हरेः पदम्
He obtains each respective fruit and reaches the abode of Hari.
मार्गशीर्षासिते पक्षे द्वादश्यां च मुनीश्वर
O lord of sages, on the twelfth day of the dark fortnight in Mārgaśīrṣa—
शुक्लमाल्याम्बरधरः शुक्लगन्धानुलेपनः
Clad in white garments and garlands, adorned with white unguents.
घण्टाचामरसंयुक्तं किङ्किणीरवशोभितम्
Accompanied by bells and fly-whisks, resplendent with the sound of tinkling ornaments.
छादितं शुक्लवस्त्रेण दीपमालाविभूषितम्
Covered with a white cloth, adorned with rows of lamps.
तस्योपरिन्यसेत्कुम्भान्द्वादशाम्बुप्रपूरितान्
Above it, he should place twelve pots filled with water.
सर्वानाच्छादयेत्कुम्भान्पञ्चरत्नसमन्वितान्
He should cover all the pots, each furnished with five kinds of gems.
हेन्मा वा राजतेनापि तथा ताम्रेण वा द्विजा
O twice-born, whether of gold, or even of silver, or likewise of copper.
तन्मूल्यं वा द्विजश्रेष्ठ काञ्चनं च स्वशक्तितः
Or, O best of twice-born, their price in gold, according to one's ability.
यदि कुर्यात्क्षयं यान्ति तस्यायुर्द्धनसंपदः
If he acts otherwise, his lifespan and wealth will diminish.
पञ्चामृतेन प्रथमं स्नापयेद्भक्तिसंयुतः
With devotion, he should first bathe it with the five nectars.
रात्रौ जागरणं कुर्यात्पुराणश्रवणादिभघिः
At night, he should keep vigil, accompanied by listening to the Purāṇas and the like.
