गत्वा शिवपुरं रम्यं सर्वस्वकुलसंयुतः
He goes to the delightful city of Śiva, together with all his family.
भुक्त्वा भोगानशेषांश्च यावदाभूतसंप्लवम्
There, he enjoys all pleasures without exception until the dissolution of the world.
तत्र भुङ्क्ते समस्तांश्च भोगान्विगतकल्मषः
There, free from all sin, he partakes of all enjoyments.
सर्वरोगविनिर्मुक्तः सो ऽप्येतत्फलभाग्भवेत्
Freed from all diseases, he too attains this fruit.
शाल्यन्नं क्षीरसंयुक्तं यः कुर्यान्नक्तभोजनम्
Whoever takes a night meal of rice cooked with milk,
काष्ठमौनेन भुञ्जानो वटकाष्टेन वै तथा
Eating in silence, using a wooden stick or a banyan stick,
शिवलिङ्गसमीपे तु गङ्गातीरे निशि स्वपेत्
Should sleep at night near the liṅga of Śiva, on the bank of the Gaṅgā.
स्नात्वोपवासं संकल्प्य कुर्य्याज्जागरणं निशि
Having bathed and resolved to fast, one should keep vigil at night.
नैवेद्यधूपदीपैश्च संपूज्य वृषभं शुभम्
Having worshipped the auspicious bull with offerings of food, incense, and lamps,
अलङ्कृत्य विधानेन शिवाय विनिवेदयेत्
One should properly adorn it and present it to Śiva according to the prescribed rule.
एवं सकृच्च यो भक्त्या करोति श्रद्धयान्वितः
Thus, whoever performs this even once, with devotion and endowed with faith,
तपः कृत्वा तु नियमाद्यत्पुण्यं तदसंशयम्
certainly attains the merit of austerities and observances.
सुश्वेतवृषयुक्तैश्च मुक्ताजालविभूषितैः
With pure white bulls yoked, adorned with garlands of pearls,
नीलोत्पलसुंगन्धाभिः सुरूपाभिः समन्ततः
and with beautiful blue lotuses, fragrant on all sides,
अनन्तकालमैश्वर्ययुक्तो भूत्वा ततो भुवि
he becomes endowed with unending prosperity for an infinite time, and then on earth,
एकच्छत्रेण स महीं पालयत्याज्ञया सह
he rules the land with a single umbrella, together with authority.
स तया श्रद्धया युक्तो गङ्गायां मरणं लभेत्
Endowed with that faith, he attains death in the Ganga.
ज्येष्ठे मासि सिते पक्षे दशम्यां हस्तसंयुते
In the month of Jyeshtha, in the bright fortnight, on the tenth day joined with Hasta,
निशायां जागरं कृत्वा गङ्गां दशविधैस्ततः
having kept vigil at night, then one should worship the Ganga in ten ways.
तथैव दीपैस्तांबूलैः पूजयेच्छ्रद्धयान्वितः
Likewise, with lamps and betel leaves, one should worship her, filled with faith.
दशप्रसृति कृष्णंश्च तिलान्सर्पिश्च वै जले
Ten handfuls of black sesame and ghee should be offered into the water.
ततो गङ्गातटे रम्ये हेम्ना रूप्येण वा तथा
Then, on the beautiful bank of the Ganga, with gold or likewise with silver,
पद्मस्वस्तिकचिह्नस्य संस्थितस्य तथोपरि
upon a platform marked with lotus and svastika symbols,
संस्थाप्य पूजयेद्देवीं तदलाभे मृदादि वा
having installed (the image), one should worship the goddess; if that is not available, then with clay and the like.
चतुर्भुजां सुनेत्रां च चन्द्रायुतसमप्रभाम्
She is four-armed, with beautiful eyes, radiant like a thousand moons.
सुप्रसन्नां च वरदां करुणार्द्रनिजान्तराम्
She is exceedingly gracious, bestower of boons, her own heart softened with compassion.
दिव्यरत्नपरीतां च दिंव्यमाल्यानुलेपनाम्
She is surrounded by divine jewels, adorned with celestial garlands and ointments.
वक्ष्यमाणेन मन्त्रेण कुर्यात्पूजां विशेषतः
With the mantra to be spoken, one should perform the worship in particular.
प्रतिमाग्रे स्थण्डिले तु गोमयेनोपलेपयेत्
In front of the image, on the altar, one should smear cow dung.
भगीरथं च नृपतिं हिमवन्तं नगेश्वरम्
Bhagiratha, the king, and Himavat, lord of the mountains.
