And what you, O Sirs, as givers, granted as a boon to Mohinī—
For her, O gods, there is no purification here in this world, not even by falling into a blazing fire.
Nor, O gods, is there purification for her here, even by falling into a blazing fire; having destroyed the beloved and the path to liberation, she made the earth devoid of kings.
Nor, O gods, should she approach the king, nor attain the imperishable abode of Viṣṇu.
O gods, she who lives with patience but is always intent on sin, her conduct is always condemned.
O gods, even if she were to slay the entire earth, what path would she attain?
It has always been declared by her: 'Let it be enjoyed on the day of Hari.'
Let it be enjoyed on Viṣṇu's day; let the cow, along with the twice-born, be slain.
This has been spoken for the ignorant; for the wise, there is no such conclusion.
Even for her, purification is said to be achieved by a hundred breath-control practices.
Or by bathing in the Jyeṣṭha pool during the constellation of Ṛkṣa.
The utterance has been declared by the Brahmins; today, this is very harsh.
Having disregarded her husband's command and killed her beloved son—
She is a violator of Viṣṇu's law, possessed of many sins.
You, Sirs, are devoted to what is just and righteous.
The gods are said to be the upholders of dharma; dharma abides in the Vedas.
Whatever the husband commands, that should be done without hesitation.
That is to be understood as service; for service is not mere attendance.
The king, constrained by oaths for the sake of truthfulness,
By that, the king attained release, having abandoned sin in this matter.
Indeed, this woman, possessed of a sinful body, was burdened with countless acts of killing.
He was devoted to pleasing his subjects and observant of the sacred day of Hari.
He always renounced personal desires for the sake of others and was ever devoted to sacrifices.
The king was not afflicted by the seven terrible calamities.
Whoever, whether god or even demon, would take her side,
Whoever among the gods strives to protect this deluder,
That one incurs the same sin as is established in this deluder.
Gazing angrily at her, who was born of fate, he cast her down upon her head, blazing like fire.
Before the eyes of the dwellers of heaven, she was consumed by the flames, just as grass is devoured by a tongue of fire.
Then that fire, sanctified by the words of the twice-born, reduced the woman to nothing but ashes.
