Whoever does not grant life to one who lives for life itself—
Therefore, O lovely one, what is desired should be given, O most beautiful.
O beautiful one, what would the gods not do together with you?
Thus addressed by the gods, Mohinī, the deluder of the worlds—
Fie upon this life of mine, by which the task was not accomplished.
Yet the holy day of Hari was not neglected, nor was it spent in enjoyment.
Rukmāṅgada has gone, placing his head at the feet of Hari.
To the Swan, the pure-footed, the sky, the syllable Om, the imperishable seed—
To the void, the form of space, free from meditation and the object of meditation—
To the supreme abode, grasped by the mind, called the Person, pervading the universe—
When he has merged into that, what fruit remains for me in life?
But one who abandons the master surely goes to hell.
Servants who take their wages are born on earth as horses.
How, then, can I accept a boon from you, dwellers of heaven?
Let us be free of debt, having rendered service to you.
O goddess, you alone share in the fruit of such an act that has been done.
Then the royal priest, shining like fire, came to the king.
When twelve years were completed, he emerged from the midst of the water.
The tiger among sages, filled with anger, approached the assembly of gods.
Fie upon this, fie upon the host of gods, and upon the act called sinful.
And what you, O Sirs, as givers, granted as a boon to Mohinī—
For her, O gods, there is no purification here in this world, not even by falling into a blazing fire.
Nor, O gods, is there purification for her here, even by falling into a blazing fire; having destroyed the beloved and the path to liberation, she made the earth devoid of kings.
Nor, O gods, should she approach the king, nor attain the imperishable abode of Viṣṇu.
O gods, she who lives with patience but is always intent on sin, her conduct is always condemned.
O gods, even if she were to slay the entire earth, what path would she attain?
It has always been declared by her: 'Let it be enjoyed on the day of Hari.'
Let it be enjoyed on Viṣṇu's day; let the cow, along with the twice-born, be slain.
This has been spoken for the ignorant; for the wise, there is no such conclusion.
Even for her, purification is said to be achieved by a hundred breath-control practices.
