एकदा शक्रमुख्यास्ते देवाः समन्त्र्य वाक्पतिम्
Once, the gods led by Śakra consulted with Bṛhaspati.
तच्छ्रुत्वा वचनं तेषां देवानां गुरुरब्रवीत्
Hearing the words of those gods, their teacher spoke.
तच्छ्रुत्वा भाषितं तस्य गुरोरमिततेजसः
Hearing the words of his guru, whose brilliance was boundless,
तत्र गत्वा सुरश्रेष्ठं वैकुण्ठं तुष्टुवुः स्तवैः
they went there and praised Vaikuṇṭha, the foremost among the gods, with hymns.
भक्तविघ्नविनाशाय वैकुण्ठाय नमो नमः
Salutations, salutations to Vaikuṇṭha, destroyer of obstacles for devotees.
क्रोडरूपाय मत्स्याय प्रलयाब्धिनिवासिने
Salutations to the one in the form of a boar, to the fish, to the dweller in the ocean of dissolution.
रामायाखिलनाथाय विश्वेशाय च साक्षिणे
Salutations to Rāma, lord of all, to the witness, to the ruler of the universe.
यज्ञाय धृतधर्माय सनकादिस्वरूपिणे
Salutations to the sacrifice, to the upholder of dharma, to the one who embodies Sanaka and others.
ऋषभाय विशुद्धाय हयशीर्षभृतात्मने
Salutations to Ṛṣabha, the pure one, whose self is borne by the horse-headed form.
कृष्णांय वासुदेवाय संकर्षणवपुर्धृते
Salutations to Kṛṣṇa, to Vāsudeva, to the one who bears the form of Saṃkarṣaṇa.
कुमाराय गणेशाय नन्दिने भृङ्गिणे नमः
Salutations to Kumāra, to Gaṇeśa, to Nandi, and to Bhṛṅgi.
जगन्नाथाय नाथाय नमो रामेश्वराय च
Salutations to the lord of the universe, to the master, and to Rāmeśvara.
नमः कमलनाभाय नमस्ते पङ्कजाङ्घ्रये
Salutations to the lotus-naveled one; salutations to the lotus-footed one.
कमलाप्रतिपालाय केशवाय नमो नमः
Salutations to the protector of Lakṣmī, to Keśava; salutations, salutations.
लोकपालस्वरूपाय प्रजापतिवपुर्धृते
Salutations to the one who embodies the guardians of the world, who bears the form of Prajāpati.
जयाय जयिने नेत्रे नियमाय क्रियात्मने
Salutations to the victorious, to the conqueror, to the leader, to the one who is discipline and action itself.
बुद्धाय कल्किरूपाय क्षेत्रज्ञायाक्षराय च
Salutations to Buddha, to the one in the form of Kalki, to the knower of the field, and to the imperishable.
शङ्खिने गदिने चैव नमश्चक्रधराय च
Salutations to the one with the conch, to the one with the mace, and salutations to the wielder of the discus.
शरण्याय वरेण्याय पराय परमात्मने
Salutations to the refuge, to the most excellent, to the supreme, to the supreme self.
पूर्णाय परिसेव्याय परात्परतराय च
Salutations to the complete one, to the one who is served everywhere, and to the one who is beyond the highest.
मोहिने क्षोभिने कामरूपिणे ऽजाय सूरिणे
To the bewildering, agitating, desire-formed, unborn, radiant one—
तद्विधत्स्वाखिलाधार यथा हि सुखिनो वयम्
Establish all supports as you see fit, so that we may be happy.
तच्छ्रुत्वा स्तवनं तेषां वैकुण्ठः प्रीतमानसः
Hearing their praise, Vaikuṇṭha became pleased in mind.
ते दृष्ट्वा देवदेवेशं वैकुण्ठं स्निग्धमानसम्
They beheld Vaikuṇṭha, Lord of gods and master of gods, with a gentle heart.
तच्छ्रुत्वा शक्रमुख्यानां कार्यं कार्यविदां वरः
Hearing the purpose of Indra and the foremost, the best among those who know duties—
गतेषु देववर्गेषु सर्वोपायविदांवरः
When the group of gods departed, the best among those who know all means—
द्विजपूजनकाले तु संप्राप्तः कार्यसाधकः
At the time of worshipping the twice-born, the accomplisher of tasks arrived.
अपूर्वं भक्तिभावेन ददौ सत्कृत्य चासनम्
With unprecedented devotion, he respectfully offered a seat.
नाहं समाददे देवि त्वद्दत्तं परमासनम्
I shall not accept, O lady, the supreme seat given by you.
यन्मे मनोगतं कार्यं तद्विज्ञाय च मानिनि
Knowing the purpose that has arisen in my mind, O proud one—
