Just as unrighteousness overcomes righteousness, as a bad counselor overcomes a king.
Just as falsehood destroys truth, and a quarrel destroys agreement.
Just as poisons destroy great diseases, and a śrāddha performed at a set time.
Killing a Brahmin, drinking liquor, theft, and union with a teacher’s wife—
Even when all these are present together, Puṣkara does not remove them.
Neither Prabhāsa nor Gayā, O goddess, nor Revā nor Sarasvatī—
Nor other lakes and rivers, nor offerings, gifts, or austerities—
Can destroy the mass of sins, except for the single day of Hari.
On one side, the gift of the earth; on the other, the day of Hari.
On that day, one should fashion the god in the form of a boar, made of gold.
Endowed with all seeds, and veiled in white cloth—
Having worshipped according to the rite, the votary should keep vigil.
With a pot placed on his lap, together with the offerings and utensils.
O fair one, when this is done, one is never born again anywhere.
All that is destroyed, just as darkness is by sunrise.
That which was performed by you before, O goddess, in another birth—
Always bringing happiness to your husband and your son,
Then, pleased, I shall go to that supreme abode of Vishnu.
Grant me that fourth portion, which is the cause of his purification.
Having passed through a hundred births as a worm, she is born as a pulkasi.
She who, being of wicked mind, does not give, is certainly born as a woman of Kāṣṭhīla.
If there is any merit in me equal to a fourth part, and if you have compassion for me,
Having given merit to her, and taking water in the hand,
By the merit of that fourth portion, let this woman of Kāṣṭhīla be released.
When I had spoken these words, she shone like lightning.
In this world, the husband is the deity; he must not be deceived by the wife.
So, tell me what you desire for your husband; I will grant it.
What other deity is there in the world for women besides the one husband?
She is honored in the world of Vishnu for a full hundred million kalpas.
She did not give her husband, nor was she asked; by that very sin she became an insect.
