पातयित्वा स्वभर्तारं विप्रहस्तेन राक्षसी
The demoness, with her Brahmin hand, cast down her own husband.
अथोवाच द्विजं हृष्टा राक्षसी शुभलोचनम्
Then the delighted demoness, with auspicious eyes, spoke to the Brahmin.
भुङ्क्ष्व भोगान्मया सार्द्धं ये दिव्या ये च मानुषाः
Enjoy pleasures with me, both those that are divine and those that are human.
ततः सादाय मे कान्तं स्वां प्रविष्टा गुहां मुदा
Then, joyfully, she brought my beloved into her own cave.
कुचाभ्यामुन्नताभ्यां सा मद्भर्तारमपीडयत्
With her full, raised breasts, she pressed against her husband.
इयं तेनासितापाङ्गी बिम्बोष्ठी काञ्चनप्रभा
She, with dark eyes, red lips, and a golden radiance, was with him.
यस्याः सीमां न लङ्घन्ति पातकानि ह्यशेषतः
No sins whatsoever can cross her boundary.
या गृहं त्रिपुरारेश्च पञ्चगव्यूतिसंस्थिता
She who dwells in the house of Tripurāri, established at a distance of five yojanas.
स त्वमस्या गृहं पित्र्यं पुनर्नय सुलोचनाम्
You must return this beautiful-eyed woman to her ancestral home.
मया सह समस्तानि विक्रीणीहि निजेच्छया
With me, sell everything as you wish.
मुग्धया तव रूपेण प्रेषितो यमसादनम्
Because of your beauty, I, bewildered, was sent to the abode of Yama.
भजस्व मां विशालाक्ष भक्तां वै कामरूपिणीम्
Accept me, O wide-eyed one, a devotee who can assume any form at will.
राक्षस्याः कामतप्तायाः कुमार्याः सन्निधौ शुभे
In the presence of the demoness, burning with desire, and the maiden, O auspicious one.
सुभगे नीतिशास्त्रेषु विश्वस्तव्या न योषितः
O fortunate one, in the treatises on conduct, women are not to be trusted.
मत्तो रूपाधिकं मत्वा परं पुरुषलंपटा
Thinking there is someone more handsome than me, women are eager for other men.
सो ऽहं विश्वासभावेन विश्वस्तस्ते वरानने
So I, trusting you, O beautiful-faced one, became confident in you.
व्यापादय यथेच्छं वा त्वां प्रपन्नो ऽस्मि भामिनि
Do with me as you wish, O beautiful one; I have surrendered myself to you.
आत्मा ते सर्वथा देयः प्रतीकारस्य हेतवे
Your very self must be given in every way, as the cause for recompense.
ततो ऽहं नोत्तरं वच्मि परं किञ्चित्सुलोचने
Therefore, O bright-eyed one, I will not say anything further in reply.
विश्वस्तहिंसनं ब्रह्मन् ब्रह्महत्या समं भवेत्
Brahman, to harm one who trusts is equal to the killing of a Brahmin.
पतिं तथापि गर्हेयं विश्वस्तं घातये कथम्
Yet, how could I reproach or kill a husband who trusts me?
केचिन्मनुष्याः पटवो धर्मसूक्ष्मत्वचिन्तने
Some humans are skilled in pondering the subtlety of dharma.
श्रूयते च पुराणेषु किञ्चिदत्र निगद्यते
It is heard in the Purāṇas, and something is spoken here about this.
दशावतारग्रहणे दुःखं प्राप्तमनेकधा
In the taking of the ten incarnations, much suffering was endured in many ways.
विलापं कुरुते नागपाशबन्धादिकर्मसु
He laments during acts such as being bound by the serpent noose and others.
हा कष्टमित्यस्रदृगादिचेष्टः पार्थोग्रसनादिकभृत्यकृत्यः
Alas, how terrible! Thus he acts with tearful eyes, as a servant performing duties like eating fierce food.
कन्यात्वविध्वसकवीर्यजन्मा कानीनसंज्ञो ऽनुजदारगामी
Born as a hero who destroys maidenhood, known as Kānīna, he goes to another's wife.
दिधिषू तनयः साक्षाद्वसुः स्त्रीवादमृत्युभाक्
Desiring knowledge, the son is directly a Vasu, but receives death through the accusation of being a woman.
तेषां संकीर्तनं पुण्यं पवित्रं पापनाशनम्
The recounting of their deeds is meritorious, pure, and destroys sin.
यं ध्यायन्ति स्मरन्त्यद्धा योगमूर्तिः सनातनः
He whom they meditate upon and remember truly is the eternal embodiment of yoga.
