कुमारीसेवने रक्षो महापापं विधीयते
A great sin is committed by violating a maiden.
तव दोषो न चेहास्ति भवितव्यं ममेदृशम्
You bear no fault in this matter; such was my destined fate.
विधियोगाद्भवेद्भर्ता विधियोगाद्भवेत्प्रिया
By the force of destiny, a husband is obtained; by the force of destiny, a beloved is found.
विधिना प्रेर्यमाणस्तु जनः सर्वत्र गच्छति
A person, impelled by fate, goes everywhere.
विधैना विहिते मार्गे किं करिष्यति पण्डितः
What can a wise man do on a path ordained by fate?
घृतं जलं कुशानग्निं विवाहं विधिना कुरु
Perform the marriage with ghee, water, sacred grass, and fire, according to the prescribed rite.
ब्राह्मणस्यैव वाक्येन विवाहः सफलो भवेत्
A marriage becomes fruitful by the words of a Brahmin alone.
वृत्ते होमस्य कार्ये तु तं भवान् भक्षयिष्यति
When the rite of the oblation is completed, you shall consume him.
विश्वस्तमानसो दर्पान्निर्जगाम स राक्षसः
That demon, his mind confident with pride, departed.
सत्वरं हृच्छयाविष्टस्तमानेतुं बहिः स्थितः
Impelled by passionate longing, he stood outside, eager to bring him in at once.
सव्यं चाप्यस्फुरन्नेत्रं स्ववस्त्रं स्खलितं तथा
His left eye twitched, and his garment slipped as well.
बिभ्राणां मानुषं रूपं स्वामपश्यन्नितंबिनीम्
Assuming a human form, he saw his beloved sleeping.
परित्यजामि त्वां पापं राक्षसं क्रूरकर्मिणम्
I renounce you, sinful demon, cruel in your deeds.
ईर्ष्याकोपसमायुक्तस्त्वभ्यधावन्निशाचरः
Filled with jealousy and anger, the night-stalker rushed forward.
कालेन वेगात्पवनो यथैव समुच्चरन्वाक्यमनर्थयुक्तम्
Just as the wind swiftly moves with time, so he uttered words devoid of meaning.
दृष्ट्वा सा राक्षसी प्राह भर्तारं मम शङ्किता
Seeing this, the demoness, suspicious, spoke to her husband.
ममायं पञ्चतां यातु दिगंबररिपुप्रिय
Let this one meet his end, O lover of enemies who go naked to the quarters.
मुमोच विपुलां शक्तिं रक्षोवक्षस्थल प्रति
She hurled a mighty spear at the demon's chest.
दिव्यांशुतीक्ष्ण वक्त्राता किङ्किणीशतनादिता
With a face radiant with divine, piercing light, adorned with the sound of hundreds of tinkling ornaments.
हृदि तस्य निपत्यासौ शक्तिर्विप्रकरच्युता
That power, released by the Brahmin, fell into his heart.
पातयित्वा स्वभर्तारं विप्रहस्तेन राक्षसी
The demoness, with her Brahmin hand, cast down her own husband.
अथोवाच द्विजं हृष्टा राक्षसी शुभलोचनम्
Then the delighted demoness, with auspicious eyes, spoke to the Brahmin.
भुङ्क्ष्व भोगान्मया सार्द्धं ये दिव्या ये च मानुषाः
Enjoy pleasures with me, both those that are divine and those that are human.
ततः सादाय मे कान्तं स्वां प्रविष्टा गुहां मुदा
Then, joyfully, she brought my beloved into her own cave.
कुचाभ्यामुन्नताभ्यां सा मद्भर्तारमपीडयत्
With her full, raised breasts, she pressed against her husband.
इयं तेनासितापाङ्गी बिम्बोष्ठी काञ्चनप्रभा
She, with dark eyes, red lips, and a golden radiance, was with him.
यस्याः सीमां न लङ्घन्ति पातकानि ह्यशेषतः
No sins whatsoever can cross her boundary.
या गृहं त्रिपुरारेश्च पञ्चगव्यूतिसंस्थिता
She who dwells in the house of Tripurāri, established at a distance of five yojanas.
स त्वमस्या गृहं पित्र्यं पुनर्नय सुलोचनाम्
You must return this beautiful-eyed woman to her ancestral home.
मया सह समस्तानि विक्रीणीहि निजेच्छया
With me, sell everything as you wish.
