Then Dharmāṅgada, the embodiment of dharma, son of Rukmāṅgada,
Rising again, he bowed to the foremost brahmins with joined palms.
Seeing her hastily, he addressed her, O king, with joined palms:
O mother, accompanied by these foremost brahmins, where are you now going?
Your father, O son, is untruthful, by whom you have been made worthless.
He is glorious, marked with a banner and goad on his right, adorned with golden armlets.
Because of your father Rukmāṅgada, I am unable to remain.
Do not be angry, mother; turn back, beloved of your husband.
The marriage has been performed, with Śiva as witness, where the lord of the gods was present.
He does not give to me what should be given; I consider his prosperity.
That by which he would incur loss, I do not ask for, O prince.
What I requested, my son, he does not give out of delusion.
But, for the sake of happiness, I have asked the best of kings.
Today, that lord stands in a dreadful falsehood, equal to drinking liquor.
I would abandon your base father; with him, I will never remain.
While I live, my father will never be untruthful anywhere.
Never before, O lady, has my father spoken a falsehood.
On his truthfulness the worlds stand firm—gods, asuras, and humans.
His fame flourishes, pervading the entire circle of the universe.
How can I believe the king’s words, unheard, when spoken in his absence?
Hearing these words spoken by Dharmāṅgada, Mohinī—
—where Rukmāṅgada, radiant as the sun, lies as if dead—
In a chamber splendid with lamp-gems, adorned with coral, the best—
Vast in length and breadth, incomparable, and enchanting—
Father, today my mother says to you, 'You are untruthful.'
With heaps of treasures, with elephants, horses, and chariots—
O lord, give her everything that you promised her.
Grant the goddess the station of Indra; know that Purandara has been conquered.
That too I shall give, having pleased the Lotus-born with austerity.
Whether in heaven or in the supreme abode, I shall give it after conquering men, gods, and demons.
