Knowing thus, O best of brahmins, those devoted to the Vaiṣṇava vow,
If the twice-born give expiation without proper examination,
Whether a god, a demon, a gandharva, or even a rākṣasa,
Or whether Hari, Hara, or even the creator of delusion,
O twice-born ones, that king named Rukmāṅgada is renowned upon the earth.
The radiance of the lord of heaven wanes, and even the Himalaya is transformed.
Yet, O Brāhmaṇas, even so, he does not abandon his vow on the day of Ekādaśī.
In villages, in lands, or among others, those who partake of the wealth adorned with gold—
—on the day of Hari, foremost among all sacrifices, destroyer of sin, and increaser of righteousness—
—in such a case, if one is declared to be an eater or doer of sin—
—having produced fame, he himself cuts it off, and out of fear for his life, from sin.
In vain is she my mother, the woman who bore me, and the twice-born, ancestors, and gods become hopeless.
What is the use of such a wicked-born one, who brings joy only to the enemies’ women?
He does not regard the Veda, Purāṇa, or scriptures, and goes to the city of the sun’s son.
There is neither Veda, nor scripture, nor that Purāṇa, nor are there the holy smṛtis.
By that śrāddha, too, there is no satisfaction, nor by what is performed for the father on the day of Hari.
The fools say that the vow which leads to Viṣṇu’s abode perishes along with the body.
With eyes reddened in anger, she addressed her husband.
A man who is outside of righteousness becomes equal to dust.
O lord of the earth, my hand was given to you for the sake of a worthy husband.
Then, having fulfilled my duty, I shall depart, for your righteousness has come to me.
I shall make my own arm my pillow, not yours, in battle.
Even among the foreigners, one such as you, who violates dharma, cannot be found.
Having spoken thus, the noble lady quickly rose up.
Then that slender woman set out, accompanied by the brahmins.
It is better to touch a blue garment than to touch one who has fallen from dharma.
Joined by Gautama and others, the brahmin woman departed from the house.
Crying out only these words, she who was born from Brahma's mind departed.
Having wandered over the whole earth, the ornament of dharma arrived.
That sound, renowned, reached his ears—he who was affectionate to his father.
