अन्यं भजन्ते भूपाल पतिं त्यक्त्वा च याः स्त्रियः
Those women who abandon their husband, O king, and take another,
पातयित्वा रमन्ते च बहुकालं बलान्विताः
After casting him down, they enjoy themselves for a long time, empowered.
अ यः स्तम्भं समाश्सिष्य तिष्ठन्त्यब्दसहस्रकम्
They remain, holding onto a pillar, for a thousand years.
तदन्ते नरकान् सर्वान् भुञ्जते ऽब्दशतं शतम्
Afterwards, they experience all the hells for a hundred hundred years.
स चापि यातनाः सर्वा भुङ्क्ते कल्पेषु पञ्चसु
He too endures all the torments for five kalpas.
तेषां कर्णेषु दाप्यन्ते तत्पायः कीलसंचयाः
Into their ears are driven accumulations of iron spikes from that boiling substance.
पूर्यते च ततश्चापिं कुम्भीपाकं प्रपद्यते
Then, being filled up, they enter the Kumbhīpāka hell.
अब्दानां कोटिपर्यन्तं लवणं भुञ्जते हि ते
For up to ten million years, they consume salt.
भज्यन्ते पापकर्मणो ऽन्येप्येवं नराधिप
Others who commit evil deeds are also broken in this way, O king.
तत्पसूचीसहस्रेण चक्षुस्तेषां प्रसूर्यते
With a thousand needles, their eyes are pierced.
ततश्च क्रकर्चेर्घोरैर्भिद्यन्ते पापकर्ंमणः
Then, with dreadful saws, the evildoers are cut apart.
परान्नलोल्लुपानां च नरकं शृणु दारुणम्
Now hear, O king, of the terrible hell for those greedy for others' food.
नरकेषु समस्तेषु प्रत्येकं ह्यब्दवासिनः
In all the hells, each one dwells there for a year.
ये च देवलकान्नानां भोजिनस्ताञ्शृणुष्व मे
And now, listen to me about those who eat the food of the gods.
पच्यन्ते सततं पापाविष्टा भोगरताः सदा
Those always engrossed in enjoyment, filled with sin, are constantly cooked.
ततः क्षारोदकस्नानं मूत्रविष्टानिषेवणम्
Then comes bathing in briny water and consuming urine and excrement.
अन्योद्वेगरता ये तु यान्ति वैतरणीं नदीम्
Those who delight in disturbing others go to the river Vaitarani.
उपासनापरित्यागी रौरवं नरकं व्रजेत्
One who abandons worship goes to the hell called Raurava.
यातनास्वासु पच्यन्ते वावदाचन्द्रतारकम्
They are cooked in torments as numerous as the stars, the moon, and the planets.
स सहस्रकुलो भुङ्क्तेनरकं कल्पपञ्चसु
He, along with a thousand generations, suffers in hell for five aeons.
स एव कृतवान् राजन्ब्रह्महत्यासहस्रकम्
O King, he is considered to have committed a thousand acts of brahminicide.
अयोनौ च वियोनौ च पशुयोनौ च यो नरः
A man who is born from an unnatural womb, or from a non-human womb, or as an animal—
वसाकूपं ततः प्राप्य स्थित्वा दिव्याब्दसत्पकम्
After reaching the pit of fat, he remains there for as many divine years.
उपवासदिने राजन्दन्तधावनकृन्नरः
O King, one who brushes his teeth on a fasting day—
यः स्वकर्मपरित्यागी पाषण्डीत्युच्यते बुधैः
He who abandons his own duties is called a heretic by the wise.
कल्पकोटिसहस्रेषु प्रान्पुतो नरकान्क्रमात्
For a thousand million aeons, he is purified by passing through hells in succession.
ब्रह्महत्याव्रतसमं दुष्कृतं भुञ्जते नृप
He experiences a sin equal to the vow of brahminicide, O King.
कल्पकोटिसहस्राणि नरके ते वसन्ति च
For thousands of millions of aeons, they dwell in hell.
तेषां पापफलं वक्ष्ये शृणुष्व सुसमाहितः
I shall now tell you the fruit of their sins; listen attentively.
ध्रूम्रपानरता नित्यं तिष्ठन्त्याब्रह्मवत्सरम्
Those who constantly delight in drinking smoke remain for a year of Brahma.
