उवाचावनतो भूत्वा सुकृती मातरस्म्यहम्
Bowing down, he spoke: 'O virtuous one, I am your son, O mothers.'
चकार सर्वभोगैस्तां युयोज च मुदान्वितः
He provided her with all enjoyments and joined her with delight.
ये लब्धे दानवाञ्चित्वा पाताले धर्ममूर्त्तिना
Those who, having obtained it, deceived the Dānavas in the netherworld by means of the embodiment of righteousness—
अष्टोत्तरसहस्रैश्च धात्रीफलनिभैः शुभैः
With auspicious fruits, numbering one thousand and eight, resembling the fruit of the jujube tree—
निष्कं पलशतं स्वर्णं कुलिशायुतभूषितम्
A hundred palas of pure gold, adorned with a thousand thunderbolt-shaped ornaments—
वलया वज्रखचिता द्विरष्टौ करयोर्द्वयोः
And two pairs of bracelets, set with diamonds, for both hands—
केयूरनूपुरौ तस्या अनर्घौ स नृपात्मजः
Her armlets and anklets were priceless, O prince—
कटिसूत्रं तु शर्वाण्या यदासीत्पावकप्रभम्
The girdle of Śarvāṇī shone with the radiance of fire—
कालनेमौ स्थिते राज्ये पतितं मूलपाचने
When Kālanemi held the kingdom, it fell into the hands of the chief cook—
तं हत्वा मलये दैत्यं दैत्यकोटिसमावृतम्
Having slain that demon on Mount Malaya, who was surrounded by a crore of demons—
अवाप कटिसूत्रं तु दैत्यराजप्रियास्थितम्
He obtained the girdle, beloved of the demon king's queen—
हिरण्यकशिपोः पूर्वं या भार्या लोकसुन्दरी
She who was formerly the wife of Hiraṇyakaśipu, renowned for her beauty in all the worlds—
सा प्रविष्टा समं पत्या यदा पावकमङ्गला
She entered the fire together with her husband, bearing auspiciousness—
सागरस्तत्तु संगृह्य रत्नश्रेष्ठयुगं किल
The ocean, having taken up that pair of supreme jewels—
जनन्याः प्रददौ हृष्टः सूर्यकोटिसमप्रभम्
Joyfully gave them to his mother, shining with the brilliance of ten million suns—
सहस्रकोटिमूल्ये ते मोहिन्याः संन्यवेदयत्
He presented them to Mohinī, valued at a thousand crores—
सर्वदेवगुरोः पूर्वं सिद्धहस्तात्सुदुर्लभम्
Formerly, from the accomplished hand of the preceptor of all the gods, it was exceedingly rare—
लब्धं तत् प्रददौ देव्या मोहिन्याः कामवर्द्धनम्
That which was obtained, he gave to the goddess Mohinī, increaser of desire—
आनीतं मातृहस्तेन भोजयामास भूमिप
Brought by the hand of the mother, she served it, O king—
मया त्वया च कर्तव्यं राज्ञो वाक्यं न संशयः
What is to be done by you and me is the king's command, without doubt.
इष्टा या भूपतेर्भर्तुस्तस्या या दुष्टमाचरेत्
If the favored wife of the king or husband commits any wicked act,
सापत्नभावं या कुर्याद्भर्तृस्नेहेष्टया सह
If she creates rivalry with the beloved through affection for the husband,
यथा सुखं भवेद्भर्तुस्तथा कार्यं हि भार्यया
The wife should act so that the husband may be happy.
यथा भर्ता तथा तां हि पश्येत वरवर्णिनि
Just as the husband behaves, O woman of noble complexion, so should he regard her.
पश्चात्स्थाने भवेत्सापि मनसा याभवत्प्रिये
She too should remain in a subordinate position, in mind, to the one who is dear.
इर्ष्याभावपरित्यागात्सर्वेश्वरपदं लभेत्
By abandoning jealousy, one attains the status of lord over all.
भर्तुरिष्टां संनिरीक्ष्य तस्या लोको ऽक्षयो भवेत्
Observing the husband's favored one, her world becomes imperishable.
शूद्रजातेः सुदुष्टस्य परित्यक्तक्रियस्य तु
But for one born of the Śūdra caste, extremely wicked and neglectful of duties,
प्रक्षालनं द्वयोः पादौ द्वयोरुच्छिष्टभोजिनी
She must wash the feet of both, and eat the leftovers of both.
वेश्यया वार्यमाणापि सदाचारपथे स्थिता
Even when restrained by a courtesan, she remained on the path of good conduct.
