This, which I desired, has been obtained: you, O protector of the earth.
O king, you are pleased with me, and I am indeed pleased with you.
Mohinī raised him from the earth, as if lifting Indra’s staff.
Do not harbor any suspicion, O king of kings; know the maiden to be without fault.
If an unmarried girl, O king, indeed bears a child,
the ancient sages have described three kinds of outcaste births.
The third, O foremost of kings, is one born to a Brahmin woman by a Śūdra man.
Then King Rukmāṅgada took that woman with restless eyes to the mountain.
O lovely-faced one, even attaining heaven would not please me so much.
O goddess, I think myself greater on earth than even Purandara.
Therefore, whatever pleases you, I shall do; command me.
On Malaya, on the summit of Meru, or in the Nandana forest—speak your wish.
She spoke words, O king, that increased his joy and expressed her feelings.
O protector of the earth, how can I go to your city when there will be co-wives?
For whom the suffering caused by a co-wife is unending, even unto death.
Knowing the suffering caused by a co-wife, I have made you my husband.
O king, you never dwell anywhere without Saṃdhyāvalī.
O king, your sorrow would become my great sorrow.
Wherever you take pleasure, O king, there my Mandara mountain shall be.
That Meru, made of gold, is said to be present there.
Having abandoned the place of her husband, or even that of her father,
Even if devoid of all duties, a woman does not become impure.
"I will go with you; you are the lord in both happiness and sorrow."
Embracing the noble lady, he spoke these words:
"Do not be anxious, slender-thighed one, for sorrow will arise from that."
"Come, let us go, slender-limbed one, to the city for happiness."
"Enjoy pleasures there with me as you wish, dear one."
She set out, adorned with the sound of anklets, drawing the beauty of the mountain-born.
Beholding many delightful forms born of the mountain, charming to the mind,
Some appeared like dark blue, others shone with golden brilliance.
