This has been described as destroying all sins for those who recite and always listen.
This is desired by all and reveals all knowledge.
Likewise, for the followers of Ganesha and the twice-born who observe the varna and ashrama,
And also for the mantras, yantras, and divisions of the limbs of the Vedas,
Whoever recites this with devotion or listens with concentration,

He who expounds, O Brahmins, the Purana, the compendium of dharma,
By body, mind, speech, and also by wealth and other means, continually—
Having listened to the Purāṇa as prescribed, having performed the sacrifice, and worshipped the gods—
One should give a gift according to one's ability; with devotion Mādhava is pleased.
Kāśī is the city, Meru is the mountain, Nārāyaṇa Hari is the deity—
The path is the lion, the man is the aśvattha tree, Prahlāda is the face—
Fire is Viṣṇu, Indra too, Kapila, the lord of speech, the sage—
Urvaśī, gold—just as these are the best among their own kinds—
May there be peace, may there be welfare for all of you, O best of twice-born.
Having spoken thus, Sūta was honored by the great souls headed by Śaunaka.
Having listened properly and performed accordingly, the sacrificers remained there.
But he, with mind free from poison, having come together, attains the sacrifice and the world desired by the good.
The four arms of Hari are the pillars supporting the pavilion of the three worlds.
May the twin lotus feet of Hari grant us the fulfillment of our wishes.
Which fire burns for him? You, who know, ought to speak of that.
O best of Brāhmaṇas, you certainly know the threefold (fire).
Whether it is future, past, or present, tell us.
Let it be heard, O tiger among kings, by which fire that comes to be.
Ash, dry and also wet, completely destroys his sin.
Observing a fast, one should worship Madhusudana.

Even sins accumulated over hundreds of births are reduced to ashes, O King.
Such is the day of Padmanabha, which destroys sins.
