एवमेव तु कृष्णासु सर्वासु द्विजसत्तम
In the same way, O best of twice-born, on all Kṛṣṇā days,
राधशुक्लचतुर्दश्यां श्रीनृसिंहव्रतं चरेत्
On the white fourteenth day of Rādhā, one should observe the vow of Śrī Nṛsiṃha.
निशागमे तु संपूज्य नृसिंहं दैत्यसूदनम्
At nightfall, one should worship Nṛsiṃha, the slayer of demons.
ततः क्षमापयेद्देवं मन्त्रेणानेन नारद
Then, O Nārada, one should beg forgiveness from the god with this mantra:
वज्राधिकनखस्पर्शदिव्यसिंह नमो ऽस्तु त
Salutation to you, O divine lion, whose nails surpass the thunderbolt in splendor.
जितेन्द्रियो जितक्रोधः सर्वभोगविवर्ज्जितः
Having conquered the senses and anger, and renounced all enjoyments,
वर्षे वर्षे स लभते भुक्तभोगो हरेः पदम्
Year after year, he attains the abode of Hari after enjoying pleasures.
दुर्लभं वार्चनं तत्र दर्शनं पापनाशनम्
There, worship is difficult to obtain, and the sight of him destroys sins.
यद्भवेत्तत्समुद्दिष्टं ज्ञानमोक्षप्रदं नृणाम्
Whatever is prescribed there is knowledge that grants liberation to men.
पञ्चामृतैस्तु संस्नाप्य लिङ्गमालिप्य कुङ्कुमैः
Bathing the liṅga with the five nectars, and anointing it with saffron,
एवं यः पूजयेत्पैष्टं लिङ्गं सर्वार्थसिद्धिदम्
Thus, whoever worships the desired liṅga, which grants all attainments—
ज्येष्ठशुक्लचतुर्दश्यां दिवा पञ्चतपा निशः
On the fourteenth day of the bright fortnight in the month of Jyeṣṭha, during the day, one should perform the fivefold austerity, and at night—
शुचिशुक्लचतुर्दश्यां शिवं संपूज्य मानवः
On the pure fourteenth day of the bright fortnight, a person should worship Śiva—
नभः शुक्लचतुर्दश्यां पवित्रारोपणं मतम्
On the fourteenth day of the bright fortnight, it is prescribed to install the sacred thread under the open sky.
शताभिमन्त्रितं कृत्वा ततो देव्यै निवेदयेत्
After enchanting it with a hundred mantras, one should then offer it to the Goddess.
महादेव्याः प्रसादेन भुक्तिं मुक्तिमवाप्नुयात्
By the grace of the great Goddess, one attains both enjoyment and liberation.
कर्त्तव्यमेकभुक्तं हि गोधूमप्रस्थपिष्टकम्
One should eat only once, consuming a cake made from a prastha of wheat flour.
गन्धाद्यैः प्राक् समभ्यर्च्यः कार्पासं पट्टजं तु वा
Having first worshipped with sandalwood and other substances, one should use cotton or silk cloth.
ततः पुराणमुत्तार्य सूत्रं क्षिप्त्वा जलाशयें
Then, removing the old thread, one should cast it into a body of water.
विपाच्य पिष्टपक्वं तत्प्रदद्याद्दक्षिणान्वितम्
After cooking the prepared flour, one should give it as an offering, accompanied by a gift.
द्विसप्तवर्षपर्यन्तं तत उद्यापयेत्सुधीः
A wise person should observe this up to twice seven years.
सुशोभने न्यसेत्तत्र कलशं ताम्रजं मुने
In a beautiful place, one should place there a copper pot, O sage.
पीतपट्टांशुकाच्छन्नां तत्र तां विधिना यजेत्
Covered with yellow silk cloth, one should worship her there according to the rite.
ततो होमं हविष्येण कृत्वा पूर्णाहुतिं चरेत्
Then, having performed the homa with oblations, one should complete the full offering.
प्रदद्याद्गुरवे भक्त्या द्विजानन्यांश्चतुर्दश
With devotion, one should give to the teacher and to fourteen other twice-born men.
एवं यः कुरुते ऽनन्तव्रतं प्रत्यक्षमादरात्
Thus, whoever performs the Anantavrata in this way, with visible reverence—
कदलीव्रतमप्यत्र तद्विधानं च मे शृणु
Now hear from me about the Kadalī-vrata here, and its procedure.
स्नात्वा संपूजयेद्गन्धपुष्पधान्याङ्कुरादिभिः
After bathing, one should worship with sandalwood, flowers, grains, sprouts, and the like.
एवं संपूज्य मन्त्रेण ततः संप्रार्थयेर्द्वती
Thus, having worshipped with the mantra, she should then make her request.
शरीरारोग्यलावण्यं देहि देवि नमो ऽस्तु ते
O Goddess, grant me health, beauty, and charm of body; I bow to you.
