एवं कृते तु विधिवद्व्रती सौभाग्यभाजनः जायते भुवि विप्रेन्द्र महादेवप्रसादतः
When this is done properly, O best of Brāhmaṇas, the vow-holder becomes a recipient of good fortune on earth by the grace of Mahādeva.
घृतपात्रं द्विजेन्द्राय प्रदद्यात्सर्वसिद्धये
One should give a vessel of clarified butter to the foremost Brāhmaṇa for the attainment of all accomplishments.
माघस्नानव्रतं विप्र नानाकामफलावहम्
O Brāhmaṇa, the Māgha bathing vow yields fruits for various desires.
नाश्वमेघसहस्रेण तत्फलं लभते भुवि
Its result on earth is not gained even by a thousand horse sacrifices.
फआल्गुने तु सिते पक्षे त्रयोदश्यामुपोषितः
In the bright fortnight of Phālguna, on the thirteenth day, having fasted—
महाराजं यक्षपतिं गन्धाद्यैरुपचारकैः
One should worship the great king, lord of the Yakṣas, with fragrant offerings and other services.
एवं शुक्लत्रयोदश्यां प्रतिमासं द्विजोत्तम
Thus, O best of Brāhmaṇas, on every bright thirteenth day, one should do likewise.
ततो व्रतान्ते तु पुनः सौवर्णं धननायकम्
Then, at the end of the vow, again, one should offer a golden image of the lord of wealth.
उपचारैः षोडशभिः स्नानैः पञ्चामृतादिभिः
With sixteen services, with baths and five nectars and the like—
ततो धेनुमलङ्कृत्य वस्त्रस्रग्गन्धभूषणैः
Then, adorning a cow with garments, garlands, fragrances, and ornaments—
संभोज्य विप्रान्मिष्टान्नैर्द्वादशाथ त्रयोदश
One should feed Brāhmaṇas with sweet food, twelve or thirteen in number.
द्विजेभ्यो दक्षणां शक्त्या दत्वा नत्वा विसृज्य च
Giving gifts to Brāhmaṇas according to one's ability, bowing, and then dismissing them.
एवं कृते व्रते विप्र निर्धनः प्राप्य वैभवम्
Thus, O Brahmin, when this vow is performed, a poor man attains prosperity.
मोदते भुवि विख्यातो राजराज इवापरः
He enjoys happiness on earth, renowned like another king of kings.
यानि कृत्वा नरो लोके सर्वान्कामानवाप्नुयात्
By performing these acts in the world, a man attains all desires.
गन्धाद्यैर्वस्त्रमणिभिः कार्यार्या महती शिवे
One should offer to the great Śiva garments, jewels, and perfumes, and the like.
एवं कृत्वार्चनं विप्र सोपवासो ऽथवैकभुक्
Thus, O Brahmin, having performed worship, with fasting or eating once a day,
अत्रैव दमनार्चां च कारयेद्गन्धपुष्पकैः
Here itself, one should also perform the worship of Damanā with perfumes and flowers.
राधकृष्णच तुर्द्दश्यां सोपवासो निशागमे
On the fourteenth day of the bright fortnight of Rādhā, with fasting at nightfall,
गन्धाद्यैरुपचारैश्च बिल्वपत्रैश्च सर्वतः
With offerings of perfumes and the like, and with bilva leaves in every way,
एवमेव तु कृष्णासु सर्वासु द्विजसत्तम
In the same way, O best of twice-born, on all Kṛṣṇā days,
राधशुक्लचतुर्दश्यां श्रीनृसिंहव्रतं चरेत्
On the white fourteenth day of Rādhā, one should observe the vow of Śrī Nṛsiṃha.
निशागमे तु संपूज्य नृसिंहं दैत्यसूदनम्
At nightfall, one should worship Nṛsiṃha, the slayer of demons.
ततः क्षमापयेद्देवं मन्त्रेणानेन नारद
Then, O Nārada, one should beg forgiveness from the god with this mantra:
वज्राधिकनखस्पर्शदिव्यसिंह नमो ऽस्तु त
Salutation to you, O divine lion, whose nails surpass the thunderbolt in splendor.
जितेन्द्रियो जितक्रोधः सर्वभोगविवर्ज्जितः
Having conquered the senses and anger, and renounced all enjoyments,
वर्षे वर्षे स लभते भुक्तभोगो हरेः पदम्
Year after year, he attains the abode of Hari after enjoying pleasures.
दुर्लभं वार्चनं तत्र दर्शनं पापनाशनम्
There, worship is difficult to obtain, and the sight of him destroys sins.
यद्भवेत्तत्समुद्दिष्टं ज्ञानमोक्षप्रदं नृणाम्
Whatever is prescribed there is knowledge that grants liberation to men.
पञ्चामृतैस्तु संस्नाप्य लिङ्गमालिप्य कुङ्कुमैः
Bathing the liṅga with the five nectars, and anointing it with saffron,
