हैमं ह्यशोकं निर्माय पूजयित्वा विधानतः
Having fashioned an Ashoka tree of gold and worshipped it according to rule,
अष्टोत्तरशतं विप्र मन्त्रेणानेन सादरम्
With this mantra, she should worship a hundred and eight times with devotion.
लोकोपकारकरणस्तत्प्रसीद शिवप्रिय
"O bestower of benefit to the world, be pleased, O beloved of Shiva."
समभ्यर्च्य विधानेन द्विजं संभोज्य दापयेत्
Having duly worshipped, she should feed a Brahmin and make him give (the gift).
पुत्रपौत्रादि सहिता भर्तुश्च स्यात्सुवल्लभा
She will be greatly beloved by her husband, together with sons, grandsons, and others.
प्रदोषे तैलदीपं तु प्रज्वाल्याभ्यर्च्य यत्नतः
In the evening, she should carefully light an oil lamp and worship.
एवं कृते तु विप्रेन्द्र यमपीडा न जायते
O foremost of Brahmins, when this is done, there is no torment from Yama.
पुनः स्नात्वा प्रदोषे तु वाग्यतः सुसमाहितः
Then, having bathed again at dusk, with restrained speech and a focused mind,
प्रदीपयेच्छिवं वापि द्वात्रिंशद्दीपमालया
one should offer light to Shiva, or arrange thirty-two rows of lamps.
फलैर्नानाविधैश्चैव नैवेद्यैरपि नारद
And, O Nārada, with various kinds of fruits and offerings of food,
तानि नामानि कीर्त्यन्ते सर्वाभीष्टप्रदानि वै
these names are recited, which indeed grant all desired blessings.
कपर्द्दिने सुरेशाय व्योमकेशाय वै नमः
Homage to the matted-haired one, to the lord of gods, to the one whose hair is the sky.
दिगंबराय भृङ्गाय उमाकान्ताय वर्द्धिने
To the sky-clad, to the bee-like one, to the beloved of Umā, to the ever-increasing one.
व्यालप्रियाय व्यालाय व्यालानां पतये नमः
To the lover of serpents, to the serpent, to the lord of serpents, obeisance.
त्रिपुरघ्नाय सिंहाय शार्दूलायार्षभाय च
To the destroyer of Tripura, to the lion, to the tiger, and to the bull.
वेदगीताय गुप्ताय वेदगुह्याय वै नमः
To the one sung by the Vedas, to the hidden one, to the secret of the Vedas, obeisance.
नमो जगत्प्रतिष्ठाय व्योमरूपाय वै नमः
Salutations to the foundation of the universe, to the one whose form is space.
गजकृत्ति धरायाथ अन्धकासुरभेदिने
To the wearer of elephant hide, and to the one who shattered the demon Andhaka.
भक्तिप्रियाय देवाय यज्ञान्तायाव्ययाय च
To the god who is fond of devotion, to the one who is the end of sacrifice, to the imperishable one.
त्रिनेत्राय त्रिवेदाय वेदाङ्गाय नमो नमः
Salutations again and again to the three-eyed one, to the knower of the three Vedas, to the limbs of the Vedas.
विश्वरूपाय विश्वाय विश्वनाथाय वै नमः
Homage to the one whose form is the universe, to the universe itself, to the lord of the universe.
अरूपाय विरूपाय सूक्ष्मसूक्ष्माय वै नमः
Salutations to the formless, to the misshapen, to the most subtle of the subtle.
शशाङ्कशेखरायाथ रुद्रभूमिश्रिताय च
To the one who wears the crescent moon, and to the one who abides in the realm of Rudra.
लिङ्गरूपाय लिङ्गाय लिङ्गानपतये नमः
Homage to the one whose form is the liṅga, to the liṅga itself, to the lord of the liṅgas.
नमः प्रभावरूपाय प्रभावार्थाय वै नमः
Salutations to the one whose form is power, and whose purpose is power; indeed, salutations.
त्रियंबकाय शितिकण्ठभार्गिणे गौरीयुजे मङ्गलहेतवे नमः
Salutations to the three-eyed one, the blue-throated, the son of Bhṛgu, united with Gaurī, the source of auspiciousness.
पठित्वा दक्षिणीकृत्य प्रायान्निजनिकेतनम्
Having recited this, and performed the prescribed rites, one returns to one's own home.
भुक्त्वेह भोगानखिलानन्ते शिवपदं लभेत्
After enjoying all pleasures here, one attains the eternal abode of Śiva.
त्रिकालमेककालं वा शिवसंगमसंभवम्
Whether performed three times daily or once, it arises from union with Śiva.
घटे मङ्गलपट्टे वा भोजयेद्द्विजदंपती
On a pot or on an auspicious cloth, one should feed a pair of Brāhmaṇas.
