यानि कृत्वा नरो भक्त्या सुभगो जायते भुवि
By performing these acts with devotion, a man becomes fortunate on earth.
कृत्वा संपूज्य यत्नेन वीजेयव्द्यजनेन च
Having performed and worshipped with care, and with the prescribed offerings—
अनङ्गपूजाप्यत्रोक्ता तां निबोध मुनीश्वर
Here too, the worship of Ananga is described; listen to it, O best of sages.
रतिप्रीतियुतं श्लक्ष्णं पुष्पचापेषुधारिणम्
He holds the sugarcane bow, gentle, united with Rati and delight.
मध्याह्ने पूजयेद्भक्त्या गन्धस्रग्भूषणांशुकैः
At midday, one should worship with devotion, with fragrance, garlands, ornaments, and garments.
नमो माराय कामाय कामदेवस्य मूर्त्तये
Salutations to Mara, to Kama, to the form of Kamadeva.
तत्तस्याग्रतो भक्त्या पूजयेदङ्गनापतिम्
In front of his image, one should worship the lord of women with devotion.
संपूज्य द्विजदांपत्यं गन्धवस्त्रविभूषणैः
Having worshipped a Brahmin couple with fragrance, cloth, and ornaments—
वसंतसमये प्राप्ते हृष्टः पुष्टः सदैव सः
When spring arrives, he is always joyful and prosperous.
मदनं हृद्भवं कामं मन्मथं च रतिप्रियम्
Madana, born of the heart, Kama, Manmatha, beloved of Rati—
कुसुमायुधसंज्ञं च ततः पश्चान्मनोभवम्
Then, he is known as Kusumāyudha, and thereafter as Manobhava.
अजाया दानमप्युक्तं स्नात्वा नद्या विधानतः
It is also said that after bathing properly in the river, one should give a gift to an unmarried woman.
भूयस्त्वनेन दानेन स लोके नैव जायते
By this gift, a person is not born again in this world.
गङ्गायां यदि लभ्येत कोटिसूर्यग्रहाधिका
If this is obtained in the Ganges, it surpasses even a crore of solar eclipses.
महामहेति विख्याता कुलकोटिविमुक्तिदा
It is renowned as the great festival, granting liberation to countless families.
तत्र गन्धादिभिः कामं पूजयेदुपवासवान्
There, one who is fasting should worship with fragrances and other offerings as desired.
एवमेव व्रतं कार्यं वर्षान्ते गामलङ्कृताम्
In the same way, at the end of the year, one should perform the vow with a decorated cow.
ज्येष्ठशुक्लत्रयोदश्यां दौर्भाग्यशमनं व्रतम्
On the thirteenth day of the bright fortnight in Jyeṣṭha, the vow for removing misfortune is to be observed.
श्वेतमन्दारमर्कं वा करवीरं च रक्तकम्
One should use white mandāra, arka, or red karavīra flowers.
मन्दारकरवीरार्का भवन्तो भास्करांशजाः
Mandāra, karavīra, and arka are said to be born from the rays of the Sun.
इत्थं योर्ऽचयते भक्त्या वर्षे वर्षे द्रुमत्रयम्
Thus, whoever worships these three trees with devotion each year,
शुचिशुक्लत्रयोदश्यामेकभक्तं समाचरेत्
should observe the vow on the pure thirteenth day of the bright fortnight, eating only once.
हैम्यौ रौप्यौ च मृन्मप्यौ यथाशक्त्या विधाय च
One should prepare golden, silver, or clay images according to one's ability.
स्थापयित्वा प्रतिष्ठाप्य दैवमन्त्रेण नारद
Having established and consecrated them with divine mantras, O Nārada,
तृतीयदिवसे प्रातः स्नात्वा संपूज्य तौ पुनः
on the third day, after bathing in the morning, one should again worship those two.
वर्षे वर्षे ततः पश्चाद्विधेयं वर्षपञ्चकम्
Thereafter, this should be performed every year for five years.
इत्थं नरो वा नारी वा कृत्वा व्रतमिदं शुभम्
Thus, whether a man or a woman, having performed this auspicious vow,
नभः शुक्लत्रयोदश्यां रतिकामव्रतं शुभम्
on the thirteenth day of the bright fortnight in the month of Nabhaḥ, the auspicious Ratikāma vow is to be observed.
कृतोपवासा कन्यैव नारी वा द्विजसत्तम
Having completed the observance, whether a maiden or a married woman, O best of twice-born,
रतिकामौ प्रविन्यस्य गन्धाद्यैः सम्यगर्चयेत्
Desiring union, having set aside perfumes and the like, she should properly worship.
