तदा तां संपरित्यज्य द्वादशीं समुपोषयेत्
Then, having completely abandoned that, one should observe the Dvādaśī.
राजसूयसहस्रस्य फलमुन्मीलिते लभेत्
One obtains, with eyes opened, the fruit of a thousand Rājasūya sacrifices.
तदा वञ्जुलिकाख्यां तु तां त्यक्त्वोपोषयेत्सदा
At that time, always abandoning the one called Vaṃjulika, one should observe.
पूजयेत्सततं भक्त्या सर्वस्याभयदं परम्
One should always worship with devotion the supreme giver of fearlessness to all.
सर्वपापहरा प्रोक्ता सर्वसंपत्प्रदायिनी
It is said to remove all sins and bestow all prosperity.
पक्षवर्द्धनिका नाम द्वादशी सा महाफला
The Dvādaśī called Pakṣavarddhanikā is of great fruit.
सर्वैश्वर्य्यप्रदं साक्षात्पुत्र पौत्रविवर्धनम्
It directly bestows all wealth and increases sons and grandsons.
तदा प्रोक्ता जया नाम सर्वशत्रुविनाशिनी
At that time, the one called Jayā is said to destroy all enemies.
सर्वकामप्रदं नॄणां सर्वसौभाग्यदायकम्
It grants all desires to people and bestows all good fortune.
तदा सा विजया नाम तस्यामचेद्गदाधरम्
At that time, it is called Vijayā; in it, one should worship Gadādhara.
सर्वतीर्थफलं विप्र तां चोपोष्याप्नुयान्नरः
O brāhmaṇa, by observing it, a man attains the fruit of all pilgrimages.
द्वादशी सा महापुण्या जयन्ती नामतः स्मृता
That Dvādaśī is highly meritorious and is remembered by the name Jayantī.
उपोषितैषा विप्रेन्द्र सर्वव्रतफलप्रदा
O best of Brahmins, by observing this fast, one attains the fruits of all vows.
यदा तु स्यात्सिते पक्षे द्वादशी जीवभान्विता
When, in the bright fortnight, the twelfth day occurs endowed with life-giving light—
अस्यां समर्चयेद्देवं नारायणमनामयम्
On that day, one should worship the flawless Lord Nārāyaṇa.
अस्यास्तूपोषणादेव मुक्तः स्याद्विप्र भोजनः
By observing this fast alone, O Brahmin, one is freed, even from the obligation of feeding Brahmins.
तदा व्रतद्वयं कार्य्यं न दोषो ऽत्रैकदैवतम्
At that time, two vows may be performed; there is no fault in worshipping a single deity.
ऊर्ज्जे सितायां द्वादश्यामन्त्यभे च व्रतद्वयम्
In the bright fortnight of Kārtika, on the twelfth and the last day, two vows are to be observed.
निसर्गतः समुद्दिष्टं व्रतं पातकनाशनम्
This vow is naturally prescribed as a destroyer of sins.
नोद्यापनमिहोद्दिष्टं कर्त्तव्यं जीविताविधि
No concluding rite is prescribed here; it should be performed as long as one lives.
यानि कृत्वा नरो भक्त्या सुभगो जायते भुवि
By performing these acts with devotion, a man becomes fortunate on earth.
कृत्वा संपूज्य यत्नेन वीजेयव्द्यजनेन च
Having performed and worshipped with care, and with the prescribed offerings—
अनङ्गपूजाप्यत्रोक्ता तां निबोध मुनीश्वर
Here too, the worship of Ananga is described; listen to it, O best of sages.
रतिप्रीतियुतं श्लक्ष्णं पुष्पचापेषुधारिणम्
He holds the sugarcane bow, gentle, united with Rati and delight.
मध्याह्ने पूजयेद्भक्त्या गन्धस्रग्भूषणांशुकैः
At midday, one should worship with devotion, with fragrance, garlands, ornaments, and garments.
नमो माराय कामाय कामदेवस्य मूर्त्तये
Salutations to Mara, to Kama, to the form of Kamadeva.
तत्तस्याग्रतो भक्त्या पूजयेदङ्गनापतिम्
In front of his image, one should worship the lord of women with devotion.
संपूज्य द्विजदांपत्यं गन्धवस्त्रविभूषणैः
Having worshipped a Brahmin couple with fragrance, cloth, and ornaments—
वसंतसमये प्राप्ते हृष्टः पुष्टः सदैव सः
When spring arrives, he is always joyful and prosperous.
मदनं हृद्भवं कामं मन्मथं च रतिप्रियम्
