At the end of the body, one attains union with Viṣṇu—of this there is no doubt.
Having adorned the Lord of the universe, who has arisen from sleep, at the coming of night,
Having offered oblations there, O sage, with a silver lamp that is brightly kindled,
There, likewise, Lakṣmī, Brahmāṇī, Caṇḍikā,
The Mothers, the Fathers, the Nāgas, and all others should be ritually honored in order.
With words such as 'Salutations! Victory!' and the resounding of bells and conches,
When the bellowing of cows arises during the great festival of nīrājana,
All the royal insignia, O Nārada, including the umbrella and others,
Having worshipped them according to rule, and having performed nīrājana oneself with reverence,
One should sit, fully adorned, upon a newly prepared throne.
With that, one should gently perform nīrājana above the king’s head.
By another wealthy king who desires a year of health,
O brāhmaṇa, by this rite called nīrājana, those diseases are destroyed.
Likewise, desire, life, and a man’s vigor depart,
And also the mighty and the lordly—these twelve are spoken of.
Then, having fed the foremost twice-born, twelve here with generous gifts,
In this very rite is known what is called the Twelve Ādityas.
Dhātā, Mitra, Aryaman, Pūṣā, Śakra, Aṃśa, Varuṇa, Bhaga—
Each month, on the bright twelfth day, one should worship with care.
Having duly honored with golden images and fed the best of twice-born.
Thus, a man who performs this vow called the 'Twelve Suns' vow—
Is born on earth as righteous, free from disease among men.
By that merit, O best of twice-born, he crosses the solar sphere.
Here, O best of twice-born, the vow called 'Unbroken' is also declared.
Having worshipped with scents, flowers, and the like, one should then feed the Brahmins in front of it.
Then, at the end, worship that image according to the prescribed method.
Whatever 'Unbroken Vow' I have performed in a hundred births—
After that, feed eminent Brahmins with rice pudding rich in pieces.
Having thus performed the vow, O Brahmin, and having pleased Janardana—
On the dark twelfth day of Pausha, the 'Form Vow' is declared.
