सर्वैरेवोपचारैस्तु विप्रान्संभोजयेद्द्विजः
should duly feed the Brahmins with all the proper offerings.
एवं कृत्वा व्रतं विप्र भुक्त्वा भोगानिहेप्सितान्
Having performed the vow in this way, O Brahmin, and enjoyed the desired pleasures here—
द्वादश्यामच्युतं प्रार्च्य सर्वैरेवोपचारकैः
on the twelfth day, one should worship Achyuta with all the prescribed offerings.
एवं कृत्वा व्रतं विप्र सफलाया विधानतः
Thus, O Brahmin, having performed the vow according to the proper method, it bears fruit.
पौषस्य शुक्लैकादश्यां पुत्रदां समुपोष्य वै
On the bright eleventh day of Pausha, having observed the Putrada fast—
ततः संभोज्य विप्राग्र्यान्दत्वा तेभ्यस्तु दक्षिणाम्
then, having fed the foremost Brahmins, one should give them gifts.
एवं कृतव्रतो विप्र भुक्वा भोगानिहेप्सितान्
Having thus completed the vow, O Brahmin, and enjoyed the desired pleasures here—
माघम्य कृष्णैकादश्यां षट्तिलां समुपोष्य वै
in the month of Magha, on the dark eleventh day, having observed the Shattila fast—
तिलैरेव द्विजश्रेष्ठ द्वादश्यां प्रातरेव हि
with sesame seeds alone, O best of Brahmins, on the twelfth day, in the morning—
द्विजान्संभोज्य विसृजेद्दत्वा तेभ्यश्च दक्षिणाम्
having fed the Brahmins, one should dismiss them after giving them gifts.
भुक्त्वेह वाञ्छितान्भोगानन्ते विष्णुपदं लभेत्
Having enjoyed the desired pleasures here, one attains the abode of Vishnu in the end.
प्रातर्हरि दिने ऽभ्यर्च्चेच्छ्रीपतिं पुरुषं द्विज
In the morning, on that day, O Brahmin, one should worship Hari, the Lord of Shri.
स्वयं भुञ्जीत तच्छेषं प्रयतो निजबान्धवैः
One should eat the remnants oneself, with a pure mind, together with one's own relatives.
स भुक्त्वेह वरान्भोगानन्ते विष्णोः पदं व्रजेत्
Having enjoyed excellent pleasures here, one ultimately attains the abode of Vishnu.
द्वादश्यां प्रातरभ्यर्च्य योगीशं गन्धपूर्वकैः
On the twelfth day, in the morning, one should worship the Lord of Yogis with fragrant offerings.
विसृज्य बान्धवैः सार्द्धं स्वयमश्नीत वाग्यतः
After distributing (the food), one should eat together with one's relatives, maintaining restraint in speech.
देहान्ते वैष्णवं लोकं याति देवैः सुसत्कृतः
At the end of the body, he goes to the world of Vishnu, honored by the gods.
उपोष्यामलकीं भक्त्या द्वादश्यां प्रातरर्चयेत्
Having observed the Amalaki fast with devotion, on the twelfth day he should worship in the morning.
भोजयित्वा वरान्नेन दद्यात्तेभ्यस्तु दक्षिणाम्
After feeding them with excellent food, he should give them gifts as honoraria.
सितैकादश्यां तपस्ये व्रजेद्विष्णोः परं पदम्
By fasting on the white Ekadashi, one attains the supreme abode of Vishnu.
उपाष्य द्वादश्यांप्रातर्गोविन्दं पूजयेत्तथा
Having fasted, on the twelfth day in the morning, he should likewise worship Govinda.
दत्वा तेभ्यो विसृज्याथ स्वयं भुञ्जीत बान्धवैः
After giving to them and dismissing them, he should then eat together with his relatives.
स याति वैष्णवं लोकं विमानेन तु भास्वता
He goes to the world of Vishnu in a shining celestial vehicle.
मोक्षदं कीर्तितं विप्र नास्त्यस्मिन्संशयः क्वचित्
This is declared to grant liberation, O Brahmin; there is no doubt about this at all.
सर्वव्रतोत्तमं विप्र ततो ज्ञेयं महाफलम्
O Brahmin, this should be known as the highest of all vows and as yielding great fruit.
आद्यन्तयोरेकमेकं मध्यमे द्वयमेव हि
At the beginning and end, one item each; in the middle, indeed, two.
कांस्यं मांसं मसूरान्नं चणकान्कोद्रवांस्तथा
Bronze, meat, lentils, chickpeas, and also wild barley.
दशम्यां दश वस्तूनि वर्जयेद्वैष्णवऋ सदा
On the tenth day, a Vaishnava should always avoid ten things.
परापवादं पैशुन्यं स्तेयं हिंसां तथा रतिम्
Slander of others, tale-bearing, theft, violence, and sexual indulgence.
कांस्यं मांसं सुरां क्षौद्रं तैलं विण्म्लेच्छभाषणम्
Bronze, meat, liquor, honey, oil, and speech with outcastes and foreigners.
