ततो दशावताराणि समभ्यर्चेत्स माहितः
Then, with devotion, he should worship the ten incarnations.
रामं रामं च कृष्णं च बौद्धं कल्किनमेव च
Namely: Rāma, Rāma, Kṛṣṇa, Buddha, and Kalki as well.
दशभ्यो विप्रवर्येभ्यो दद्यात्सत्कृत्य नारद
He should respectfully give to ten eminent Brāhmaṇas, O Nārada.
विसृज्य पश्चाद्भुञ्जीत स्वयं स्वेष्टैः समाहितः
After offering, he should then eat himself, with his chosen companions, in a focused manner.
विमानेन व्रजेदन्ते विष्णुलोकं सनातनम्
At the end, he will go by a celestial chariot to the eternal realm of Viṣṇu.
चतुर्गोमयपिण्डानि प्रातर्न्यस्य गृहाङ्गणे
In the morning, he should place four cakes of cow dung in the courtyard of his house.
तथा भरतशत्रुघ्नौ पूजयेच्चतुरो ऽपि हि
In the same way, he should worship Bharata and Śatrughna, and also the other four.
किन्नं धान्यं सरौप्यं तु धृत्वा धौतांशुकावृतम्
He should take unhusked grain and silver, covered with a washed cloth.
संपूज्यं गन्धपुष्पाद्यैर्नैवेद्यैश्च विधानतः
These should be worshipped with scents, flowers, and other offerings, as well as food, according to the proper method.
एवं कृत्वा विधानं तु नरो वर्षं सुरवान्वितः
A man who performs this rite in this way, for a year, is endowed with divine merit.
अथापाराह्नसमये नवम्यां संनिमन्त्रिताम्
Then, at the time after midday on the ninth day, he should invite [the Brāhmaṇas].
गृहीत्वा स्वगृहं प्राप्य गीतवादित्रनिःस्वनैः
Having brought them to his own house, accompanied by the sounds of singing and instruments,
निर्गत्य पूर्वद्वारेण ग्रामाद्ब्रहिरनाकुलः
He should leave the village by the eastern gate, free from confusion.
मनसा कल्पितां वापि स्वर्णं पुंरवंशरेण वै
He should offer gold, either real or mentally conceived, with the lineage of Puṃrava.
एवं कृतविधिर्वापि गच्छेद्वा शत्रुनिग्रहे
Or, having performed the rite in this way, he may depart for the subjugation of enemies.
धनं जयं सुतान् गाश्च गजाश्वं वाप्यजाविकम्
He will obtain wealth, victory, sons, cows, elephants, horses, or other livestock.
दशम्यां कार्तिके शुक्ले सार्वभौमव्रतं चरेत्
On the tenth day of the bright fortnight in Kārtika, he should observe the universal vow.
दशदिक्षु बलिं दद्याद् गृहद्वापि पुराद्ब्रहिः
He should give offerings in all ten directions, either at the house or outside the town.
मन्त्रैरेभिर्द्विजश्रेष्ठ गणेशादिकृतार्चनः
With these mantras, O best of twice-born, one should perform worship beginning with Ganesha.
तमिन्द्रो देवरा जो ऽद्य नाशयत्वखिलेष्टदः
May Indra, king of the gods, today destroy him who grants all desires.
तेजोराजो ऽथ वह्निस्तं नाशयत्वखिलेष्टदः
Then may Tejoraja and Agni destroy him who grants all desires.
तं यमः प्रेतराजो वै नाशयत्वखिलेष्टदः
May Yama, king of the departed, destroy him who grants all desires.
रक्षोराजो नैरृतिस्तं नाशयत्वखिलेष्टदः
May Nairrita, king of the demons, destroy him who grants all desires.
यादः पतिस्तं वरुणो नाशयत्वखिलेष्टदः
May Varuna, lord of the aquatic beings, destroy him who grants all desires.
वायुस्तं मरुतां राजो नाशयत्वखिलेष्टदः
May Vayu, king of the Maruts, destroy him who grants all desires.
सोमस्तमृक्षयक्षेशो नाशयत्वखिलेष्टदः
May Soma, lord of the stars and yakshas, destroy him who grants all desires.
ईशानो भूतनाथस्तं नाशयत्वखिलेष्टदः
May Ishana, lord of beings, destroy him who grants all desires.
ब्रह्मा प्रजापतीशस्तं नाशयत्वखिलेष्टदः
May Brahma, lord of progenitors, destroy him who grants all desires.
अनन्तो नागराजस्तं नाशयत्वखिलेष्टदः
May Ananta, king of serpents, destroy him who grants all desires.
क्षेत्रपालाय तद्बाह्ये क्षिपेद्बलिमतन्द्रितः
With unwavering strength, he should cast it outside for the guardian of the field.
