ततो निशायां प्राग्यामे खड्गं धनुरिषून्गदाम्
Then, at night, in the eastern quarter, he should offer sword, bow, arrows, and mace.
छत्रं ध्वजं गजं चाश्व गोवृषं पुस्तकं तुलाम्
Umbrella, banner, elephant, horse, cow, bull, book, and scales.
संपूज्य महिषं तत्र भद्रकाल्यै समालभेत्
Having worshipped the buffalo there, he should dedicate it to Bhadrakali.
द्विजेभ्यो दक्षिणां दत्वा व्रतं तत्र समापयेत्
Giving gifts to the twice-born, he should complete the vow at that place.
इह भुक्त्वा वरान्भोगानन्ते स्वर्गतिमाप्नुयात्
Having enjoyed excellent pleasures here, he attains heaven in the end.
तस्यामश्वत्थमूले वै तर्प्पणं सम्यगाचरेत्
At the root of the Ashvattha tree, he should properly perform the offering.
स्वशाखोक्तैस्तथा मन्त्रैः सूर्यायार्घ्यं ततोर्ऽपयेत्
With mantras as prescribed by his branch, he should then offer libation to the Sun.
स्वयं भुक्त्वा च विहरेद्द्विजेभ्यो दत्तदक्षिणः
Having eaten himself, and given gifts to the twice-born, he may enjoy himself.
होमं च सर्वमक्षय्यं भवेदिति विधेर्वयः
All the offerings made in the fire become inexhaustible, according to the rule.
तस्यामुपोषितो यस्तु जगदंबां प्रपूजयेत्
Whoever, having fasted there, worships the Mother of the World,
पौषे शुक्लनवम्यां तु महामायां प्रपूजयेत्
On the bright ninth day in Pausha, he should worship the Great Maya.
माघमासे तु वा शुक्ला नवमी लोकपूजिता
Or, in the month of Magha, the bright ninth day is celebrated by the world.
तस्यां स्नानं तथा दानं जपो होम उपोषणम्
There, bathing, giving gifts, recitation, fire offering, and fasting are to be performed.
फआल्गुनामलपक्षस्य नवमी या द्विजोत्तम
O best of twice-born, the ninth day of the bright half of Phalguna—
सोपवासोर्ऽचयेत्तत्र यस्त्वानन्दां द्विजोत्तम
O best of twice-born, whoever worships there with fasting and joy—
स लभेद्वाञ्छितान्कामान्सत्यं सत्यं मयोदितम्
He attains all desired pleasures; this I declare to be true, truly.
यानि कृत्वा नरो भक्त्या धर्मराजप्रियो भवेत्
By performing these acts with devotion, a man becomes dear to the Lord of Dharma.
तत्कालसंभवैः पुष्पैः फलैर्गन्धादिभिस्तथा
With flowers, fruits, fragrances, and the like, obtained at that time—
चतुर्द्दशततस्तेभ्यः शक्त्या दद्याच्च दक्षिणाम्
He should give, according to his ability, a donation of fourteen hundred to those.
स धर्मस्याज्ञयागच्छेद्देवैः साधर्म्यमच्युतः
By the command of Dharma, he attains equality with the gods, O flawless one.
गन्धाद्यैरुपचारैश्च श्वेतपुष्पैः सुगन्धिभिः
With offerings such as fragrances and pure, fragrant white flowers—
लभते वैष्णवं लोकं नात्र कार्या विचारणा
He attains the Vaishnava world; there is no need for further deliberation.
समायाता धरां स्वर्गात्तस्मात्सा पुण्यदा स्मृता
Having descended to earth from heaven, therefore it is remembered as bestowing merit.
गरानन्दव्यतीपाताः कन्येन्दुवृषभास्कराः
The signs of joy, the maiden, the moon, the bull, and the sun—
हरते दश पापानि तस्माद्दशहरः स्मृतः
It removes ten sins; therefore it is remembered as the remover of ten.
विधिना जाह्नवीतोये स याति हरिमन्दिरम्
By the prescribed method, in the waters of the Ganges, he goes to the temple of Hari.
तस्यां स्नानं जपो दानं होमो वा स्वर्गतिप्रदाः
There, bathing, recitation, giving gifts, or fire offering grant passage to heaven.
अस्यां शिवार्चनं शस्तं गन्धाद्यै रुपचारकैः
Worship of Shiva here is praised, with offerings such as fragrances.
हेम्नो दान च धेन्वादेः सर्वपापप्रणाशनम्
The giving of gold and cows here destroys all sins.
व्रतं दशावताराख्यं तत्र स्नानं जलाशये
