तेषां तु शीतला देवी स्याद्विस्फोटकशान्तिदा
For them, the goddess Śītalā grants relief from eruptions.
तस्य वर्षं भवेच्छान्तिः शीतलायाः प्रसादतः
By the grace of Śītalā, peace prevails for a year.
शिवां वापिशिवं प्रार्च्यलभते वाञ्छितं फलम्
By properly worshipping Śiva or Śivā, one attains the desired result.
यानि कृत्वा नरा लोके लभन्ते वाञ्छितं फलम्
Those acts by which people in the world obtain their desired results—
तत्रोपवासं विधिवच्छक्तो भक्तः समाचरेत्
There, the devotee should observe fasting according to the prescribed method, if able.
विप्रान्संभोज्य मिष्टान्नै रामप्रीति सुमाचरेत्
He should feed the Brahmins with sweet foods and perform worship for the pleasure of Rāma.
एव यः कुरुते भक्त्या श्रीरामनवमीव्रतम्
Thus, whoever observes the Śrī Rāma Navamī vow with devotion—
उक्तं मातृव्रतं चात्र भैरवेण समन्विताः
Here, the mother’s vow is also mentioned, accompanied by Bhairava.
अत्रैव भद्रकालो तु योगिनीनां महाबला
Here, Bhadrakālī is indeed the mighty one among the yoginīs.
तस्मात्तां पूजयेच्चात्र सोपवासो जितेन्द्रियः
Therefore, one should worship her here, fasting and with controlled senses.
विधिना स विमानेन देवतैः सह मोदते
According to the prescribed method, he enjoys happiness in a celestial vehicle together with the gods.
उमां संपूज्य विधिवत्कुमारीर्भोजयेद्द्विजान्
Having properly worshipped Umā, he should feed maidens and Brahmins.
उमाव्रतमिदं विप्र यः कुर्याद्विधिवन्नरः
O Brahmin, whoever performs this Umā vow properly—
आषाढे मासि विप्रेन्द्र यः कुर्यात्पक्षयोर्द्विज
O foremost of Brahmins, whoever performs it in the month of Āṣāḍha, in either fortnight—
स भवेद्वै वलोके तु भोगभारग्देवयानगः
He becomes, indeed, in that world, a bearer of enjoyment, proceeding on the path of the gods.
पक्षयोरुपवासं वा कौमारीं चण्डिकां यजेत्
He should observe fasting on both lunar days, and worship the maiden Chandika.
नैवेद्यैर्विविधैश्चैव कुमारीभोजनैस्तथा
With various offerings of food, and likewise with meals for maidens.
स विमानेन गच्छेद्वै देवीलोकं सनातनम्
He travels by celestial vehicle to the eternal realm of the Goddess.
तस्यां यः पूजयेद्दुर्गां विधिवच्चोपचारकैः
There, whoever worships Durga with proper rituals and offerings,
आश्विने शुक्लनवमी महापूर्वा प्रकीर्तिता
The bright ninth day in Ashvina is declared to be most auspicious.
ततो निशायां प्राग्यामे खड्गं धनुरिषून्गदाम्
Then, at night, in the eastern quarter, he should offer sword, bow, arrows, and mace.
छत्रं ध्वजं गजं चाश्व गोवृषं पुस्तकं तुलाम्
Umbrella, banner, elephant, horse, cow, bull, book, and scales.
संपूज्य महिषं तत्र भद्रकाल्यै समालभेत्
Having worshipped the buffalo there, he should dedicate it to Bhadrakali.
द्विजेभ्यो दक्षिणां दत्वा व्रतं तत्र समापयेत्
Giving gifts to the twice-born, he should complete the vow at that place.
इह भुक्त्वा वरान्भोगानन्ते स्वर्गतिमाप्नुयात्
Having enjoyed excellent pleasures here, he attains heaven in the end.
तस्यामश्वत्थमूले वै तर्प्पणं सम्यगाचरेत्
At the root of the Ashvattha tree, he should properly perform the offering.
स्वशाखोक्तैस्तथा मन्त्रैः सूर्यायार्घ्यं ततोर्ऽपयेत्
With mantras as prescribed by his branch, he should then offer libation to the Sun.
स्वयं भुक्त्वा च विहरेद्द्विजेभ्यो दत्तदक्षिणः
Having eaten himself, and given gifts to the twice-born, he may enjoy himself.
होमं च सर्वमक्षय्यं भवेदिति विधेर्वयः
All the offerings made in the fire become inexhaustible, according to the rule.
तस्यामुपोषितो यस्तु जगदंबां प्रपूजयेत्
Whoever, having fasted there, worships the Mother of the World,
