अतो ऽस्यां पूजनं तस्य यथोक्तविधिना द्विज
Therefore, O Brahmin, worship of that should be performed here according to the prescribed method.
सुवर्णदक्षिणां दत्वा विसृज्याश्नीत च स्वयम्
Having given a golden gift, one should distribute and then eat oneself.
द्विजोब्राह्मं तथा शूद्रः सत्कुलेजन्म चाप्नुयात्
A Brahmin, a Kṣatriya, and a Śūdra thus attain birth in a noble family.
उपोष्य भानुं त्रिःसन्ध्यं समभ्यर्च्य धरास्थितः
Having fasted, worshipping the Sun at the three junctions while standing on the earth,
द्विजाय दत्वा भोज्यान्यान्सप्ताष्टभ्यश्च दक्षिणाम्
Giving food to a Brahmin and gifts to seven or eight others,
अभयाख्यं व्रतं त्वेतत्सर्वस्याभयदं स्मृतम्
This vow called Abhaya is remembered as granting fearlessness to all.
एकमेवेति च प्रोक्तमेकदैवतया बुधैः
It is declared by the wise to be one, with a single deity.
समुपोष्य दिने तस्मिन्सम्पूज्यादित्यबिम्बकम्
Having fasted on that day, one should worship the image of the Sun.
परे ऽह्नि विप्रान्सम्भोज्य पायसेन तु सप्त वै
On the following day, one should feed seven Brahmins with milk-rice.
सौवर्णं तु रवेर्बिम्बं युक्तं दक्षिणया न्यया
One should offer a golden image of the sun, properly accompanied by a gift.
एतत्सर्वाप्तिदं नाम संप्रोक्तं सार्वकामिकम्
This is declared to be the all-desire-fulfilling rite, known as the bestower of all attainments.
माघस्य शुक्लसप्तम्यामचलाख्यं व्रतं स्मृतम्
On the seventh day of the bright half of Māgha, the vow called 'Acala' is remembered.
रथाख्या सप्तमी चेयं चक्रवर्तित्वदायिनी
This seventh day is called 'Rathā Saptamī,' bestowing sovereignty.
यो भावभक्तिसहितः स गतो हि लोकं शम्भोः स मोदत इहापि च भुक्तभोगः
He who performs it with heartfelt devotion attains the world of Śambhu and enjoys pleasures here as well.
अरुणोदयवेलायामस्यां स्नानं विधीयते
On this day, bathing is prescribed at the time of sunrise.
निधाय शिरसि स्नायात्सप्तजन्माघशान्तये
Placing arka leaves on the head, one should bathe to destroy the sins of seven births.
यो माघसितप्तम्यां पूजयेन्मां विधानतः
Whoever worships me properly on the Māgha Śukla Saptamī—
तस्माज्जितेन्द्रियो भूत्वा समुपोष्य दिवानिशम्
Therefore, having subdued the senses, one should fast day and night.
दध्योदनेन पयसा पायसेन च भोजयेत्
One should feed others with curd-rice, milk, and milk-rice.
लभते स तु सत्पुत्रं चिरायुषमनामयम्
He obtains a virtuous son, long life, and freedom from disease.
अर्कपत्रैर्यजेदर्कमर्कपत्राणि चाश्नुयात्
One should worship the sun with arka leaves and also partake of arka leaves.
धनदं पुत्रदं चैतत्सर्वपापप्रणाशनम्
This destroys all sins and grants wealth and sons.
यज्ञव्रतं तथाप्यन्ये विधिवद्धोमकर्मणा
Others also perform this as a sacrificial vow, with proper ritual and offerings.
भास्कराराधनं प्रोक्तं सर्वकामिकमित्यलम्
This is declared to be the worship of Bhāskara, fulfilling all desires—enough has been said.
प्रदक्षिणशतं कृत्वा कार्यो यात्रामहोत्सवः
After making a hundred circumambulations, the great festival procession should be performed.
अत्रैवाशो ककलिकाप्राशनं समुदाहृतम्
Here itself, the eating of the bulb called kakalikā is prescribed.
चैत्रे मासि सिताष्टम्यां न ते शोकमवाप्नुयुः
In the month of Caitra, on the bright eighth day, they shall not encounter sorrow.
वैशाखस्य सिताष्टम्यां समुपोष्यात्र वारिणा
On the bright eighth day of Vaiśākha, having fasted here with water,
स्नापयित्वार्च्य गन्धाद्यैर्नैवेद्यं शर्करामयम्
After bathing and worshipping with sandal and other fragrances, one should offer a sweet food made of sugar.
ज्योतिर्मयविमानेन भ्राजमानो यथा रविः
He, shining like the sun, ascends in a radiant celestial chariot.
