यस्तु देवालये राजन्नपि गोचर्ममात्रकम्
O king, even if one offers only a piece of cowhide in the temple—
गन्धोदकेन यः सिञ्चेद्देवतायतने भुवम्
He who sprinkles the temple floor with fragrant water—
मृदा धातुविकारैर्वा यो लिम्पेद्देवतागृहम्
He who plasters the temple with clay or metallic substances—
शिलाचूर्णेन यो मर्त्यो देवागारं तु लोपयेत्
Or a mortal who covers the temple with powdered stone—
यः कुर्याद्दीपरचनां देवतायतने नृप
O King, whoever lights a lamp in a temple of the deity—
अखण्डदीपं यः कुर्याद्विष्णोर्वा शङ्करस्य च
Whoever kindles an unbroken lamp for Viṣṇu or for Śaṅkara—
अर्चितं शङ्करं दृष्ट्वा विष्णुं वापि नमेत्तु यः
Who, upon seeing Śaṅkara or Viṣṇu being worshipped, bows before them—
देव्याः प्रदक्षिणामेकां सत्प सूर्यस्य भूमिप
Who makes even one circumambulation of the Goddess or of the Sun, O King—
कृत्वा तत्तद्गृहं प्राप्य मोदते युगलक्षकम्
Having done these, and reaching that abode, he rejoices for a pair of lakṣas (two hundred thousand years).
प्रदक्षिणां चररेत्तस्य ह्यश्वमेधः पदे पदे
For each step taken in circumambulation, it is as if he performs an Aśvamedha sacrifice.
न तस्य विद्यते कृत्यं संसृतिर्नैव जायते
For him, there remains no duty; he is not born again into saṃsāra.
नरो न च्यवते स्वर्गाच्छङ्करस्य प्रसादतः
By the grace of Śaṅkara, such a man does not fall from heaven.
सर्वान्कामानवान्पोति मनसा यद्यदिच्छति
He attains all desired objects, whatever he wishes in his mind.
गायते वा स भूपाल रुद्रलोके च मुक्तिभाक्
O King, whether he sings or not, he attains liberation in Rudra’s world.
ते हंसयानमारुढा व्रजन्ति ब्रह्मणः पदम्
Mounted upon a swan vehicle, they go to the abode of Brahman.
सर्वपापनिर्मुक्ता विमानस्था युगायुतम्
Freed from all sins, they dwell in aerial chariots for tens of thousands of ages.
तेषां पुण्यं निगदितुं न समर्थः शिवः स्वयम्
Even Śiva himself is not able to describe the merit of such persons.
संप्रीणयन्ति देवेशं तेषां पुण्यफलं शृणु
They gladden the Lord of the gods; listen to the fruit of their merit.
स्वर्गलोकमनुप्राप्य मोदन्ते कल्पपञ्चकम्
Having reached heaven, they rejoice for five kalpas.
सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तो विष्णुना सह मोदते
Freed from all sins, he delights together with Viṣṇu.
सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तो विष्णुलोकमवान्पुयात्
Freed from all sins, he attains the world of Viṣṇu.
सर्वधर्मफलं पूर्णं संतुष्टः प्रददाति च
He receives the full fruit of all dharmas, and is satisfied.
सफलानि भवन्त्येव सर्वकर्माणि भूपते
O King, all actions indeed become fruitful.
तमुद्दिश्य कृतं यच्च तदानन्त्याय कल्पते
And whatever is done with reference to Him leads to endless merit.
कार्यं च विष्णुः करणानि विष्णुरस्मान्न किञ्चिव्द्यतिरिक्तमस्ति
The work is Viṣṇu, the instruments are Viṣṇu; for us, there is nothing apart from Viṣṇu.
प्रब्रवीमि नृपश्रेष्ठ तं शृणुष्व समाहितः
I shall declare it, O best of kings; listen attentively.
क्रोधादज्ञानतो वापिं तस्य वक्ष्यामि निष्कृतिम्
I will explain the expiation for him, whether it is due to anger or ignorance.
स्नानं त्रिषवणं विप्रपञ्चगव्येन शुध्यति
Bathing three times a day, and using the five products of the cow, a Brāhmaṇa becomes purified.
उच्छिष्टत्वे ऽशुचित्वे च तस्य शुद्धिं वदामि ते
I will tell you the purification for him in the case of having leftovers or impurity.
अहोरात्रोषितो भूत्वा पञ्चगव्येन शुध्यति
After fasting for a day and night, he is purified by the five products of the cow.
