फलं मूलं च युथेभ्यो दत्त्वा स्वर्गं लभेन्नरः
By giving fruits and roots to the ascetics, a man attains heaven.
यतिभ्यो ऽलाबुपात्राणि दत्त्वाभीष्टं लभेन्नरः
By giving bowls of alābu to the ascetics, a man attains his desired goal.
उद्यापनं विधानेन कर्तव्यं फलमिच्छता
The ritual of conclusion should be performed according to the procedure by one desiring the fruit.
कृत्वा गणपतेर्मातुर्लोके मोदेत तत्समम्
Having performed it, one rejoices in the world of the Mother of Gaṇapati, equal to that.
रथन्तराह्वकल्पस्य ह्यादिभूतं दिनं यतः
Because the day is the origin of the rite called Rathantara,
पूजयित्वा लभेच्चापि फलं देवादिदुर्गमम्
Having worshipped, one also attains the difficult-to-reach fruit of the gods and others.
श्रावणस्य चतुर्थ्यां तु जाति चन्द्रोदये मुने
O sage, on the fourth day of the month of Śrāvaṇa, at the rising of the moon of the Jāti constellation,
लम्बोदरं चतुर्बाहुं त्रिनेत्रं रक्तवर्णकम्
one should worship Lambodara, the four-armed, three-eyed, red-colored deity,
आवाहनादिभिः सर्वैरुपचारैः समर्चयेत्
with all offerings beginning from invocation and other prescribed services.
एवं व्रतं विधायाथ भुक्त्वा मोदकमेव च
Thus, having performed the vow, and having eaten only modaka,
व्रतस्यास्य प्रभावेण कामान्मनसि चिन्तितान्
by the power of this vow, the desires contemplated in the mind
नानेन सदृशं चान्यद्व्रतमस्ति जगत्त्रये
there is no other vow in the three worlds equal to this one.
अथास्मिन्नेव दिवसे दूर्वागणपति व्रतम्
Then, on this very day, the Dūrvā-Gaṇapati vow
हैमं निर्माय गणपं ताम्रपात्रोपरि स्थितम्
having fashioned a golden image of Gaṇapati, placed upon a copper vessel,
पूजयेद्रक्तकुसुमैः पत्रिकाभिश्च पञ्चभिः
one should worship with red flowers and five types of leaves,
आभिरन्यश्च कुसुमैरभ्यर्च्य फलमोदकैः
and with other flowers, offering fruit and modaka as well.
ततः संप्रारथ्य विघ्नेशमूर्तिं सोपस्करां मुने
Then, having earnestly prayed to the image of Vighneśa along with its accessories, O sage,
कृत्वैवं पञ्च वर्षाणि समुपास्य यथाविधि
having thus worshipped for five years according to the proper method,
अथ भाद्रचतुर्थ्यां तु बहुलाधेनुसंज्ञकम्
then, on the fourth day of Bhādra, called Bahulādhenu,
ततः प्रदक्षिणीकृत्य शक्तश्चेद्दानमाचरेत्
after circumambulating, if able, one should perform a charitable act.
पञ्चाब्दं वादशाब्दं वा षोडशाब्दमथापि वा
For five years, ten years, or even sixteen years,
प्रभावेण व्रतस्यास्य भुक्त्वा भोगान्मनोरमान्
by the power of this vow, having enjoyed delightful pleasures,
अथ शुक्ल चतुर्थ्यां तु सिद्धवैनायकव्रतम्
then, on the bright fourth day, the Siddha-Vaināyaka vow,
एकाग्रमानसो भूत्वा ध्यायेत्सिद्धिविनायकम्
having made the mind single-pointed, one should meditate upon Siddhi-Vināyaka.
पाशाङ्कुशधरं देवं तप्तकाञ्चनसन्निभम्
The god who holds the noose and goad, whose form shines like heated gold.
समर्पयेद्भक्तियुक्तस्तानि नामानि वै शृणु
One should offer these with devotion; now listen to their names.
उमापुत्राय बैल्वं तु दूर्वां गजमुखाय च
To the son of Uma, offer bael leaves; to the elephant-faced one, offer dūrvā grass.
शूर्पकर्णाय तुलसीं वक्रतुण्डाय शिंबिजम्
To the one with winnowing-fan ears, offer tulasi; to the crooked-tusked, offer śiṃbijam fruit.
हेरम्बाय तु सिंदूरं चतिर्हेत्रे च पत्रजम्
To Heramba, offer vermilion; to the four-handed one, offer leaves.
दूर्वायुग्मं ततो गृह्य गन्धपुष्पाक्षतैर्युतम्
Then, taking a pair of dūrvā blades, along with fragrance, flowers, and rice grains.
