धनधान्यसमायुक्तो जीवेद्विर्षशतं ध्रुवम्
Endowed with wealth and grain, he will certainly live for two hundred years.
प्रोक्तं तदेव कृष्णासु कर्त्तव्यं विधिकोविदैः
This same rite should be performed in the dark fortnight by those skilled in ritual.
पूज्यते हि द्वितीयासु ब्रह्मचर्य्यादि पूर्ववत्
On the second day, worship is performed as before, with celibacy and other observances.
यानि सम्यग्विधायाशु नारी सौभाग्यमाप्नुयात्
Whatever a woman properly undertakes, she quickly attains good fortune.
सौवर्णा राजतीं वापि ताम्नीं वा मृण्ययीं द्विज
A container made of gold, silver, copper, or clay, O twice-born one,
दूर्वाकाण्डैश्च विधिवत्सोपवासा तु कन्यका
And with blades of sacred grass, according to the prescribed rite, the maiden should observe a fast.
द्विजभार्या भर्तृमतीः कन्यकां वा सुलक्षणाः
A twice-born man's wife who has a husband, or a maiden of good qualities,
रात्रौ जागरणं कुर्याद्व्रतसंपूर्तिकाम्यया
Should remain awake at night, desiring the completion of the vow.
धातुजां मृन्मयीं वा तु निक्षिपेच्च जलाशये
One should place an image made of metal or clay into a body of water.
धेनुद्वादशसंकल्पं दद्यादुत्सर्गसिद्धये
For the accomplishment of the offering, one should give twelve cows with due resolve.
स्त्रीणां यथा तथा नान्या विद्यते भुवनत्रये
For women, there is no other vow like this in all the three worlds.
लभते सर्वमेवेष्टं गौरीमभ्यर्च्य भक्तितः
By worshipping Gauri with devotion, one attains all desired things.
तिथिस्त्रोतायुगाद्या सा कृतस्याक्षयकारिणी
This observance, performed on the proper lunar day and time, brings inexhaustible merit.
शुक्ले पूर्वाह्निके ग्राह्ये कृष्णे चैव तपस्तथ
In the bright fortnight, it should be performed in the forenoon; in the dark fortnight, with austerity likewise.
तत्र राधतृतीयायां श्रीसमेतं जगद्गुरुम्
On that Radha-Trtiya, the preceptor of the world, accompanied by Sri, is to be worshipped.
यद्वा गङ्गांभसि स्नातो मुच्यते सर्वकिल्बिषैः
Or, having bathed in the water of the Ganga, one is freed from all sins.
सक्तून्संभोजयेद्विप्रान्स्वयमभ्यवहरेच्च तान्
One should feed the Brahmins with parched grain and partake of it oneself as well.
विष्णुलोकमवाप्नोति सर्वदेवनमस्कृतः
He attains the world of Vishnu, honored by all the gods.
तस्यां सभार्यं विधिवत्पूजयेद्वाह्मणोत्तमम्
On that day, together with his wife, he should properly worship an eminent Brahmin.
रंभाव्रतमिदं विप्र विधिवत्समुपाश्रितम्
O Brahmin, this is the Rambha vow, undertaken according to the prescribed rite.
अथाषाढतृतीयायां शुक्लायां शुक्लवाससा
Then, on the bright third day of Ashadha, wearing white garments,
भोजनैः सुरभीदानैर्वस्त्रैश्चापि विभूषणैः
With food, gifts of fragrant substances, garments, and also ornaments,
समुपास्य व्रतं चैतद्धनधान्यसमन्विता
Having observed this vow, endowed with wealth and grain,
नभः शुक्लतृतीयायां स्वर्णगौरीव्रतं चरेत्
On the third day of the bright fortnight in the sky, one should perform the Svarṇagaurī vow.
पुत्रान्देहि धनं देहि सौभाग्यं देहि सुव्रते
Grant me sons, grant me wealth, grant me good fortune, O virtuous one.
एवं संप्रार्थ्य देवेशीं भवानीं भवसंयुताम्
Thus petitioning the goddess, Bhavānī, who is united with existence,
एवं षोडशवर्षाणि कृत्वा नारी व्रतं शुभम्
In this way, a woman should perform the auspicious vow for sixteen years.
मण्डपे मण्डले शुद्धे गणेशादिसुरार्चनम्
In a clean pavilion or circle, one should worship Gaṇeśa and the other gods.
सौवर्णीं प्रतिमां तत्र भवान्याः प्रतिपूजयेत्
There, one should honor a golden image of Bhavānī.
वेणुपात्रैः षोडशभिः पक्वान्नपरिपूरितैः
With sixteen bamboo vessels filled with cooked food,
