वैडूर्यदो रुद्रलोकं पुष्परागप्रदस्तथा
By giving beryl, one attains Rudra's realm; likewise by giving red gems.
अश्वसांनिध्यं चिरं व्रजति भूमिप
He attains the company of horses for a long time, O king.
प्रयाति यानदानेन स्वर्गं स्वर्यानमास्थितः
By giving a vehicle, mounted on a heavenly vehicle, he goes to heaven.
गवां तृणप्रदानेन रुद्रलोकमवान्पुयात्
By giving grass to cows, he attains Rudra's realm.
स्वश्रमाचारनिरताः सर्वभूतहितेरताः
Those devoted to the conduct of their own āśrama, intent on the welfare of all beings,
परोपदेश निरता वीतरागा विमत्साराः
Engaged in instructing others, free from passion and envy,
सत्सङ्गाह्लादनिरताः सत्कर्मसु सदोद्यताः
They delight in the company of the virtuous and are ever engaged in noble deeds.
नित्यं हितकरा ये तु ब्राह्मणेषु च गोषु च
They are always devoted to the welfare of Brāhmaṇas and cows.
जितेन्द्रिया जिताहारा गोषु क्षान्ताः सुशीलिनः
They have mastered their senses and food, are patient with cows, and possess good character.
अग्निशुश्रूषवश्चैव गुरुशुश्रूषकास्तथा
They serve the sacred fire and likewise attend to their teachers.
सदा देवार्चनरता हरिनमपरायणाः
They are always devoted to worshipping the gods and are dedicated to the name of Hari.
अनाथं विप्रकुणपं ये दहेयुर्नृपोत्तम
O best of kings, those who burn the body of a Brāhmaṇa who has no protector—
पत्रैः पुर्ष्पेः फलैर्वापि जलैर्वा मनुजेश्वर
—with leaves, flowers, fruits, or even with water, O lord of men—
अप्सरोगणगन्धर्वैः स्तूयमानो विमानगः
—being praised by hosts of Apsarases and Gandharvas, they ascend to the celestial chariot.
चुलुकोदकमात्रेण लिङ्गं संस्नाप्य भूमिप
O king, by bathing the liṅga with even a handful of water—
पूजया रहितं लिङ्गं कुसुमैर्योर्ऽचयेत्सुधीः
—if a wise person worships the liṅga with flowers, even without formal ritual—
भक्ष्यैर्भोज्यैः फलैर्वापि शून्यं लिङ्गं प्रपूज्य च
—or honors the liṅga with food, offerings, or fruits, even when the ritual is absent—
पूजया रहितं विष्णुं योर्ऽचयेदकर्वंशज
—or worships Viṣṇu without formal ritual, O descendant of Karvaṃśa—
देवतायतने यस्तु कुर्यात्संमार्जनं सुधीः
He who, being wise, sweeps the temple of the deity—
शीर्णं स्फटिकलिङ्गन्तु यः संदध्यान्नृपोत्तम
O best of kings, he who repairs a broken crystal liṅga—
यस्तु देवालये राजन्नपि गोचर्ममात्रकम्
O king, even if one offers only a piece of cowhide in the temple—
गन्धोदकेन यः सिञ्चेद्देवतायतने भुवम्
He who sprinkles the temple floor with fragrant water—
मृदा धातुविकारैर्वा यो लिम्पेद्देवतागृहम्
He who plasters the temple with clay or metallic substances—
शिलाचूर्णेन यो मर्त्यो देवागारं तु लोपयेत्
Or a mortal who covers the temple with powdered stone—
यः कुर्याद्दीपरचनां देवतायतने नृप
O King, whoever lights a lamp in a temple of the deity—
अखण्डदीपं यः कुर्याद्विष्णोर्वा शङ्करस्य च
Whoever kindles an unbroken lamp for Viṣṇu or for Śaṅkara—
अर्चितं शङ्करं दृष्ट्वा विष्णुं वापि नमेत्तु यः
Who, upon seeing Śaṅkara or Viṣṇu being worshipped, bows before them—
देव्याः प्रदक्षिणामेकां सत्प सूर्यस्य भूमिप
Who makes even one circumambulation of the Goddess or of the Sun, O King—
कृत्वा तत्तद्गृहं प्राप्य मोदते युगलक्षकम्
Having done these, and reaching that abode, he rejoices for a pair of lakṣas (two hundred thousand years).
प्रदक्षिणां चररेत्तस्य ह्यश्वमेधः पदे पदे
For each step taken in circumambulation, it is as if he performs an Aśvamedha sacrifice.
