भृगुशापस्तथा विष्णोर्दशधा जन्मने क्षितौ
The curse of Bhṛgu and the tenfold birth of Viṣṇu on earth,
क्रियायोगस्ततः पश्चात्पुराणपरिकीर्तनम्
Then the practice of rites and the mention of the Purāṇas,
कृष्णाष्टमीव्रतं तद्वद्रोहिणीचन्द्रसंज्ञितम्
The vow of Kṛṣṇāṣṭamī, called Rohiṇīcandra,
सौभाग्यशयनं तद्वदगस्त्यव्रतमेव च
The auspicious bed, and likewise the vow of Agastya.
तथैवानं दकर्याश्च व्रतं सारस्वतं पुनः
In the same way, the vow of fasting and the Sarasvata vow are also described.
भीमाख्या द्वादशी तद्वदनङ्गशयनं तथा
Likewise, the twelfth day called Bhima, and the vow of Ananga's repose.
सप्तमीसप्तकं तद्वद्विशोकद्वादशीव्रतम्
Similarly, the group of seven Saptamis, and the Viśoka Dvādaśī vow.
ग्रहस्वरूपकथनं तथा शिवचतुर्दशी
Also, the narration of the forms of the planets, and the Śiva Caturdaśī.
संक्रान्तिस्नपनं तद्वद्विभूतिद्वादशीव्रतम्
In the same way, the ablution at the solstice, and the Vibhūti Dvādaśī vow.
प्रयागस्य तु माहात्म्यं द्वीपलोकानुवर्णनम्

भवनानि सुरेद्राणां त्रिपुरोद्योतनं तथा
The dwellings of the gods and the illumination of Tripura are likewise described.
चतुर्युगस्य संभूतिर्युगधर्मनिरूपणम्
The origin of the four ages and the determination of the duties of each age.
तारकासुरमाहात्म्यं ब्रह्मदेवानुकीर्तनम्
The greatness of Tārakāsura and the recounting of Brahmā and the gods.
अनङ्गदेहदाहश्च रतिशोकस्तथैव च
The burning of Ananga's body and likewise the grief of Rati.
पार्वतीऋषिसंवादस्तथैरोद्वाहमङ्गलम्
The conversation between Pārvatī and the sage, and also the auspicious wedding.
तारकस्य वधो घोरो नरसिंहोपवर्णनम्
The terrible slaying of Tāraka and the description of Narasiṃha.
वाराणस्यास्तु माहात्म्यं नर्मदायास्तथैव च
The greatness of Vārāṇasī and likewise that of the Narmadā.
तथोभयमुखीदानं दानं कृष्णाजिनस्य च
Also, the giving of gifts facing both directions, and the gift of a black antelope skin.
विविधोत्पातकथनं ग्रहणान्तस्तथैव च
The narration of various portents and likewise the eclipses.
वामनस्य तु माहात्म्यं वाराहस्य ततः परम्
The greatness of Vāmana, and then that of Varāha.
देवासुरविमर्दश्च वास्तुविद्या तथैव च
The battle between gods and demons, and likewise the science of architecture.
प्रासादलक्षणं तद्वन्मण्डपान च लक्षणम्
The characteristics of palaces, and likewise the characteristics of pavilions.
कल्पानुकीर्तनं तद्वत्पुराणे ऽस्मिन्प्रकीर्तितम्
The narration of the cycles of time has likewise been recounted in this Purāṇa.
यः पठेच्छृणुयाद्वापि स याति भवनं हरेः
Whoever recites or even hears it attains the abode of Hari.
विप्रायाभ्यर्च्य विषुवे स याति परमं पदम्
Having worshipped a brāhmaṇa at the solstice, he attains the supreme state.
गरुडायाब्रवीत्पृष्टो भगवान्गरुडासनः
The blessed Lord, seated upon Garuḍa, was questioned by Garuḍa and spoke.
पुराणोपक्रमप्रश्नः सर्गः संक्षेपतस्ततः
Thereafter, the inquiry into the commencement of the Purāṇa and the creation, in brief.
श्राद्धपूजा ततः पश्चान्नवव्यूहार्चनं द्विज
Then the worship for ancestors, and after that, the arrangement of food offerings, O twice-born.
योगाध्यायस्ततो विष्णोर्नामसाहस्रकीर्तनम्
Next is the chapter on yoga, the recitation of Viṣṇu’s thousand names.
मालामन्त्रः शिवार्चाथ गणपूजा ततः परम्
Then the garland-mantra, the worship of Śiva, and thereafter the supreme worship of Gaṇeśa.
