एकतः क्रतवः सर्वे समग्रवरदक्षिणाः
On one side are all sacrifices, complete with every best gift.
संरक्षति महीपाल यो विप्रं भयविह्वलम्
He who protects a Brahmin afflicted by fear, O king,
वस्त्रदो रुद्रभवनं कन्यादो ब्रह्मणः पदम्
The giver of cloth attains the abode of Rudra; the giver of a maiden attains the realm of Brahma.
यस्तु कन्यामलङ्कृत्य ददात्यध्यात्मवेदिने
He who, having adorned a maiden, gives her to one versed in spiritual knowledge,
कार्तिक्यां पौर्णमास्यां वा आषाढ्यां वापि भूपते
On the full moon of Kārtika or of Āṣāḍha, O king,
सत्पजन्मार्जितैः पापैर्विमुक्तो रुद्ररुपभाक्
Freed from sins acquired in noble births, he attains the form of Rudra.
शिवलिङ्गाङ्कितं कृत्वा महिषं यः समुत्सृजेत्
He who, marking a buffalo with the sign of the Śiva-liṅga, releases it,
ताम्बूलदानं यः कुर्याच्छक्तितो नृपसत्तम
He who gives betel according to his ability, O best of kings,
प्रयाति ब्रह्मसदनमिक्षुदाता नृपोत्तम
O best of kings, one who gives sugarcane goes to the abode of Brahma.
गुडेक्षुरसदश्चैव प्रयाति क्षीरसागरम्
And one who gives jaggery or sugarcane juice attains the ocean of milk.
विद्यादानेन सायुज्यं माधवस्य व्रजेन्नरः
By the gift of knowledge, a man attains union with Mādhava.
नरकादुद्धरन्त्येव जपवाहनदोहनात्
Indeed, by giving cows for recitation, riding, or milking, one is lifted from hell.
विद्यादानेन सायुज्यं विष्णोर्याति नृपोत्तम
By the gift of knowledge, O best of kings, one attains union with Viṣṇu.
शालग्रामशिलादानं महादानं प्रकीर्तितम्
The gift of a Śālagrāma stone is proclaimed as a great gift.
ब्रह्माण्ड कोटिदानेन यत्फलं लभते नरः
The fruit that a man obtains by giving ten million universes,
शालग्रामशिलादाने ततो ऽपि द्विगुणं फलम्
By giving a Śālagrāma stone, the fruit is twice as great as that.
यो ददाति नरो दानं गृहतां प्रभो
Whoever gives a gift, O Lord, from his own house,
रत्नान्वितसवर्णस्य प्रदानेन नृपोत्तम
O best of kings, by giving a golden vessel adorned with jewels,
नरो माणिक्यदानेन परं मोक्षमवान्पुयात्
A man, by giving a ruby, attains the highest liberation.
स्वर्गं विद्रुमदानेन रुद्रलोकमवान्पुयात्
By giving coral, he attains heaven; by giving pearls, he attains Rudra's realm.
वैडूर्यदो रुद्रलोकं पुष्परागप्रदस्तथा
By giving beryl, one attains Rudra's realm; likewise by giving red gems.
अश्वसांनिध्यं चिरं व्रजति भूमिप
He attains the company of horses for a long time, O king.
प्रयाति यानदानेन स्वर्गं स्वर्यानमास्थितः
By giving a vehicle, mounted on a heavenly vehicle, he goes to heaven.
गवां तृणप्रदानेन रुद्रलोकमवान्पुयात्
By giving grass to cows, he attains Rudra's realm.
स्वश्रमाचारनिरताः सर्वभूतहितेरताः
Those devoted to the conduct of their own āśrama, intent on the welfare of all beings,
परोपदेश निरता वीतरागा विमत्साराः
Engaged in instructing others, free from passion and envy,
सत्सङ्गाह्लादनिरताः सत्कर्मसु सदोद्यताः
They delight in the company of the virtuous and are ever engaged in noble deeds.
नित्यं हितकरा ये तु ब्राह्मणेषु च गोषु च
They are always devoted to the welfare of Brāhmaṇas and cows.
जितेन्द्रिया जिताहारा गोषु क्षान्ताः सुशीलिनः
They have mastered their senses and food, are patient with cows, and possess good character.
अग्निशुश्रूषवश्चैव गुरुशुश्रूषकास्तथा
They serve the sacred fire and likewise attend to their teachers.
