भागद्वयसमायुक्तं वक्तृश्रोतृशुभावहम्
Endowed with two divisions, it brings auspiciousness to both speaker and listener.

The tale of Kapālamocana and the destruction of Dakṣa's sacrifice.
प्रह्लादनारायणयोर्युद्धं देवासुराहवः
The battle between Prahlāda and Nārāyaṇa, and the war of gods and demons.
ततः काम्यव्रताख्यानं श्रीदुर्गाचरितं ततः
Then the account of desired vows, and thereafter the deeds of holy Durgā.
सत्यामाहात्म्यमतुलं पार्वतीजन्मकीर्तनम्
The incomparable greatness of Satī, and the story of Pārvatī's birth.
ततः कौशिक्युपाख्यानं कुमारचरितं ततः
Then the narrative of Kauśikī, and after that, the deeds of Kumāra.
जाबालिचरितं पश्चादरजायाः कथाद्भुता
Afterwards, the story of Jābāli, and the wondrous tale of Arajā.
मरुतां जन्मकथनं बलेश्च चरितं ततः
The account of the birth of the Maruts, and then the deeds of Bali.
प्रह्लादतीर्थयात्रायां प्रोच्यन्ते ऽथ कथाः शुभाः
Then, in Prahlāda's pilgrimage, auspicious stories are told.
नक्षत्रपुरुषाख्यानं श्रीदामचरितं ततः
The narrative of the Nakṣatra-puruṣa, and then the deeds of Śrīdāma.
प्रह्लादबलिसंवादे सुतले हरिशंसनम्
In the dialogue between Prahlāda and Bali in Sutala, the praise of Hari.
शृण्णतो ऽस्योत्तरं भागं बहद्वामनसंज्ञकम्

गाणेश्वर्यां गणेशस्य चरितं च महेशितुः
In the Gāṇeśvarī, the deeds of Gaṇeśa and the great Lord are recounted.
पुलस्त्येन समाख्यातं नारदाय महात्मने
This was narrated by Pulastya to the great-souled Nārada.
व्यासात्तु लब्धवांश्चैतत् तच्छिष्यो रोमहर्षणः
And from Vyāsa, his disciple Romaharṣaṇa received it.
एवं परंपराप्राप्तं पुराणं वामनं शुभम्
Thus, the auspicious Vāmana Purāṇa was received through tradition.
लिखित्वैतत्पुराणं तु यः शरद्विषुवेर्ऽपयेत्
Whoever, having written this Purana, offers it at the autumn equinox,
स समुद्धृत्य नरकान्नयेत्स्वर्गं पितॄन्स्वकान् देहान्ते भुक्तभोगो ऽसौ याति विष्णोः परं पदम्
He, having rescued his ancestors from hell, leads them to heaven; after enjoying the fruits of his deeds, he attains the supreme abode of Vishnu at the end of his life.
लक्ष्मीकल्पानुचरितं यत्र कूर्मवपुर्हरिः
Where Hari, in the form of the tortoise, performed deeds in the Lakshmi cycle,
इन्द्रद्युम्नप्रसंगेन प्राहर्षिभ्यो दयान्वितः
Compassionate through the story of Indradyumna, he brought joy to the sages,
यत्र ब्राह्माः पुरा प्रोक्ता धर्मा नानाविधा मुने
Where, O sage, the Brahmins of old proclaimed various kinds of dharmas,
