विष्णुधर्मसमाख्यानं विष्णुनामसहस्रकम्

जम्बृद्वीपस्य तीर्थानां माहात्म्यं पापनाशनम्

अवतारकथाः पुण्या मत्स्यादीनामतः परम्
Then the meritorious stories of the incarnations, beginning with Matsya.
परीक्षणं च भृगुणा श्रीविष्णोर्वैभवस्य च
The examination by Bhrigu and the majesty of Shri Vishnu.
पञ्चखण्डयुतं पाद्मं यः शृणोति नरोत्तमः
Whoever, O best of men, listens to the Padma with its five sections—
एतद्वै पञ्चपञ्चाशत्सहस्रं पद्मसंज्ञकम्
This, indeed, is the Padma, consisting of fifty-five thousand (verses).
यः प्रदद्यात्सुसत्कृत्य पुराणज्ञाय मानद
Whoever gives this, with proper honor, to one who knows the Purāṇas, becomes worthy of respect.
पद्मानुक्रमणीमेतां यः पठेच्छृणुयात्तथा
Whoever recites or listens to this sequence of the Padma Purāṇa likewise—
सो ऽपि पद्मपुराणस्य लभेच्छ्रवणजं फलम्
He too attains the fruit that comes from hearing the Padma Purāṇa.
त्रयोविंशतिसहस्रं सर्वपातकनाशनम्
Twenty-three thousand verses, destroyers of all sins.
मैत्रेयायादिमे तत्र पुराणस्यावतारिकाम्

समुद्रमथनाख्यानं दक्षादीनां ततो ऽन्वयः

ततस्तु यौवने प्रोक्ता लीला द्वारवतीभवा
Then, in adulthood, are told the pastimes that took place in Dvāravatī.
यत्र स्थित्वाजगन्नाथः कृष्णो योगेश्वरेश्वरः
There, having established himself, Lord of the Universe, Kṛṣṇa, master of yogis, reigns.
अष्टावक्रीयमाख्यानं पञ्चमोंऽश इतीरितः
The story of Aṣṭāvakra is the fifth section, thus it is said.
ब्रह्मज्ञानसमुद्देशः खाण्डिक्यस्य निरूपितः
