दुर्गां प्रपूजयेत्सौम्यां त्रिनेत्रां चारुभूषणाम्
He should worship gentle Durgā, three-eyed and adorned with beautiful ornaments.
बालार्काभं शिशुं कान्तंषण्मुखं पूजयेत्ततः
Then, he should worship the handsome six-faced child, radiant like the rising sun.
परश्वधवराभीतिटङ्किनं श्यामविग्रहम्
He should worship the dark-complexioned one, bearing axe, boon, fearlessness, and a staff.
विघ्ननायकमभ्यर्चेच्चन्द्रार्द्धकृतशेखरम्
He should worship the remover of obstacles, adorned with the crescent moon as his crest.
द्विनेत्रं रक्तवस्त्राढ्यं सेनापतिमथार्चयेत्

ईशानाद्या न्यसेन्मूर्तीरङ्गुष्ठादिषु देशिकः
The teacher should place the forms beginning with Īśāna on the thumbs and other fingers.
वामदेवाह्वयं सद्योजातबीजं क्रमाद्विदुः
They know the Vāmadeva and Sadyojāta seed-syllables in sequence.
तत्तदङ्गुलिभिर्भूयस्तत्तदिकान्न्यसेत्
He should place each of them on the respective fingers, corresponding to each direction.
उर्द्धप्राग्दक्षिणोदीच्यपश्चिमेषु मुखेषु च
On the upward, eastern, southern, northern, and western faces as well.
ईशानाद्या ऋचः सम्यगङ्गुलीषु यथाक्रमात्
The hymns beginning with Īśāna are properly placed on the fingers in order.
मूर्द्धास्यहृदयांभोजगुह्यपादे तु ताः पुनः
Again, these are placed on the head, mouth, heart-lotus, secret part, and feet.
तारपञ्चकमुच्चार्य सर्वज्ञाय हृदीरितम्
Reciting the five-syllable mantra, the one for omniscience is uttered in the heart.
तदन्ते ब्रह्मशिःसे शिरोगं ज्वलितं ततः
After that, on the head, the blazing syllable 'Brahmaśiḥ' is placed.
वज्रिणे वज्रहस्ताय स्वतन्त्राय तनुच्छदम्
To the wielder of the thunderbolt, holding the thunderbolt, independent, the sheath of the body.
नेत्रमुक्तं श्लीपशुं हुं फडन्ते नेत्रं शक्तये

पूर्वदक्षिणपश्चात्प्राक्सौम्यमध्येषु पञ्चसु

ईशानः सर्वविद्यानां शशिनी प्रथमा कला
Īśāna is of all knowledge; the first digit is called 'śaśinī'.
ब्रह्माधिपतिः शब्दान्ते ब्रह्मणो ऽधिपतिः पुनः

मरीचिः कथिता विप्र चतुर्थी च सदाशिवे

आद्या तत्पुरुपायेति विद्महे शान्तिरीरिता
The first is called Tatpuruṣa, as we know; 'śānti' is declared.
विद्या द्वितीया कथिता तन्नो रुद्रः पदं ततः
The second is called Vidyā; then Rudra is the word after that.
निवृत्तिस्तत्परा सर्वा प्रणवाद्या नमोन्विता
All the mantras beginning with Om, accompanied by salutations, are entirely devoted to withdrawal.
अथोरसि कला न्यस्येदष्टौ मन्त्री यथाविधि
Now, one should place the eight kalās on the chest, with the mantras, according to the proper method.
अथ घोरेभ्य इत्यन्ते मोहास्यात्तदनन्तरम्
Then, at the end, after 'from the terrible ones,' comes delusion, and after that—
घोरतरेभ्यो निद्रा स्यात्सर्वेभ्यः सर्वतत्परा
From the more terrible ones comes sleep; above all, she is wholly intent on everything.
