सर्वभूतहितो नित्यं सो ऽभ्यर्च्यो दिविजैः स्मृतः
He who always acts for the welfare of all beings is remembered as worthy of worship by the gods.
अनसूयुःशुचिर्दक्षो यः सो ऽप्यर्च्यःसुरेश्वरैः
He who is free from envy, pure, and skillful is also to be worshipped by the lords of the gods.
वेदवादरतो नित्यं स ज्ञेयः पङ्किपावनः
He who is always devoted to the discourse of the Vedas is to be known as a purifier of the fallen.
सर्वं यो ब्रह्मण नित्यमस्मदादिषु का कथा
He who sees everything as Brahman—what more need be said about us and others?
अपरिग्रहशी लश्च देवपूज्यः स नारद
He who is free from possessions is to be honored by the gods, O Narada.
परोपकारनिरतः पूजनीयः सुरासुरैः
One who is devoted to the welfare of others is to be worshipped by both gods and demons.
सत्संगे ऽपि च यस्यास्ति सो ऽपि वन्द्यः सुरोत्तमैः
Even one who possesses association with the virtuous is worthy of reverence by the best of the gods.
करोति भारते वर्षे संबन्धो ऽस्माभिरेव च
He who establishes a connection with us in the land of Bharata—
स एव दुष्कृतिर्मूढो नास्त्यन्यो ऽस्मादचेतनः
He alone is wicked and deluded; there is no one else as senseless as he.
पीयूषकलशं सुक्त्वा विषभाण्डमुपाश्रितः
Having abandoned a pot of nectar, he resorts to a vessel of poison.
स एवात्मविधाती स्यात्पापिनामग्रणीर्मुने
He himself becomes the destroyer of his own self and the foremost among sinners, O sage.
स च सर्वाधमः प्रोक्तो वेदविद्भिर्मुनीश्वर
He is declared the lowest of all by the knowers of the Veda, O lord of sages.
कामधेनुं परित्यज्य अर्कक्षीरं सं मार्गति
Abandoning the wish-fulfilling cow, he seeks the milk of a donkey.
ब्रह्माद्या अपि विप्रेन्द्र स्वभोगक्षयभीरवः
Even Brahma and others, O best of Brahmins, are afraid of the loss of their own enjoyments.
देवानां दुर्लभं वापि सर्वकर्मफलप्रदम्
Even that which is difficult for the gods to obtain, and which grants the fruits of all actions—
न तस्य सदृशं कश्चित्रिषु विद्यते
There is no one like him in the three worlds.
नररुपपरिच्छन्नः स हरिर्नात्र संशयः
That Hari is concealed in human form; there is no doubt about this.
निवेद्य हरये भक्त्या तत्फलं ह्यक्षयं स्मृतम्
When one offers to Hari with devotion, the fruit of that is remembered as imperishable.
अर्पयेत्सुकृतं कर्म प्रीयतामितिं मे हरिः
One should dedicate virtuous actions, saying, 'May Hari be pleased with me.'
फलागृध्नुः कर्मणां तत्प्रात्प्रोति परमं पदम्
He who is not greedy for the fruits of actions attains the supreme state.
यथाश्रमं त्यक्तुकामः प्रान्पोति पदमव्ययम्
Desiring to renounce according to one's stage of life, one attains the imperishable state.
स्वाश्रमाचारशून्यश्च पतितः प्रोच्यते बुधैः
One who is devoid of proper conduct in his own stage of life is called fallen by the wise.
तस्य विष्णुश्च तुष्टः स्याद्भक्तियुक्तस्य नारद
For such a person endowed with devotion, O Narada, Vishnu becomes pleased.
पच्यते निरये धोरे स त्वाचन्द्राक्रतारकम्
He is cooked in the dreadful hell until the end of the moon and stars.
वासुदेवपरं ज्ञानं वासुदेवपरा गतिः
Knowledge centered on Vāsudeva, and the path centered on Vāsudeva.
आब्रह्मस्तम्बपर्यन्तं तस्मादन्यत्र विद्यते
From Brahmā down to a blade of grass, apart from that, something else exists.
स एवब्रह्माण्डमिदं ततो ऽन्यन्न किञ्चिदस्ति व्यतिरिक्तरुपम्
He alone is this universe; besides him, nothing exists in a distinct form.
व्यात्पं हि तेनेदमिदं विचित्रं तं देवदेवं प्रणमेत्समीङ्यम्
By him this wondrous world is pervaded; one should bow to that God of gods with reverence.
श्रद्धयासाध्यते सर्वं श्रद्धया तुष्यते हरिः
Everything is accomplished through faith; Hari is pleased by faith.
कर्मश्चद्धाविहीनानि न सिध्यन्तिं द्विजो तमाः
Actions lacking faith do not succeed, O twice-born, they are darkness.
